New Year: Are New Year's Resolutions a Waste of Time?
John Assaraf
CEO
NeuroGym
"New Year's resolutions are a waste of time for most people. Why? Because they are not backed by the right mental and emotional preparation and conditioning. Relying upon willpower, resolve, and persistence is absolutely the worst way to achieve your new goals. These things are controlled by your conscious mind, which is responsible for only about 2-5 percent of your day-to-day actions and perceptions. If you truly want to make permanent changes in your life, it takes about 15 minutes a day of mental retraining for 30 to 60 days. The more you do this, the faster you'll see results. The good news is that you can't get a brain hernia if you overdo it. The bottom line is this: When you are interested in your success, you'll do what's convenient. On the other hand, when you are committed to your success, you'll do whatever it takes."
Assaraf is a serial entrepreneur, brain researcher, and CEO of NeuroGym. In the last 25 years, he has grown five multi-million-dollar companies in real estate, internet software, brain research, and life and business coaching and consulting. He is the author of two New York Times best-selling books: "Having It All" and "The Answer." His brand-new book is called "Innercise: The New Science to Unlock Your Brain's Hidden Power" (Waterside Press, 2018). Assaraf has made frequent appearances on Larry King Live and has been featured in eight films, including the blockbuster smash hit "The Secret," and "Quest for Success" with Richard Branson and the Dalai Lama. He is one of the leading behavioral and mindset experts in the world, with a unique ability to help people release the mental and emotional obstacles that prevent them from achieving their very best in life and business. Assaraf is a vegan who creates and eats his own hot sauces, meditates daily, and exercises six days a week. He loves skiing, traveling, taking cooking classes, listening to the Bee Gees and Enigma, and being a dad, husband, and mentor.

New Year: Stress-Proof Your Health in 2019
Dr. Bradley Nelson
Holistic Physician and Author
"Stress is nothing but an imbalance of energy, partly conscious and partly subconscious. The energy that you spend focusing on negativity and fear is directly proportional to your stress level. Remnants of trauma that have become stuck in the body -- trapped emotions -- lead us to unconsciously choose certain feelings, thoughts, and expectations. Learning energy healing techniques can lower your stress level by quickly getting straight to the underlying causes of negative emotional choices and nagging, negative thoughts."
Dr. Nelson is a holistic chiropractic physician, a medical intuitive, and one of the world's foremost experts in the emerging fields of bioenergetic medicine and energy psychology. His bestselling book, "The Emotion Code," is helping people all over the world to improve their lives easily and quickly. Users of "The Emotion Code" have found freedom from emotional problems such as depression and anxiety, as well as physical problems including fatigue, pain and disease. A key element of The Emotion Code is removing emotional energies that have clustered around the heart, interfering with one's ability to find love and success. Dr. Nelson has coined this cluster of emotions the "Heart-Wall," and it has been called "the most important discovery in the history of energy medicine." He has trained thousands of practitioners worldwide to help people overcome unresolved anger, depression, anxiety, loneliness and other negative emotions and the physical symptoms associated with them.

New Year: Have a Happier 2019 With Mindfulness
Julie Potiker
Author, Mindfulness Expert
Mindful Methods for Life
"This year, let mindfulness help you become more resilient. Feel your frustration or disappointment or whatever it is that comes up for you, then turn to one of your mindfulness tools to comfort yourself, as you would comfort a dear friend. You are that dear friend! You can enjoy the present more without ruminating on the past or worrying as much about the future."
Potiker, an author and mindfulness expert, is an attorney who began her serious study and investigation of mindfulness after graduating from the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program at the University of California, San Diego. She was trained by Kristin Neff, Christopher Germer and UCSD as a Mindful Self-Compassion Teacher. She went on to study with Rick Hanson, becoming a graduate of his Positive Neuroplasticity Training Professional Course. Potiker also completed Brené Brown's Living Brave Semester. Now, she shares these and other mindfulness techniques with the world through her Mindful Methods for Life trainings and her new book, "Life Falls Apart, But You Don't Have To: Mindful Methods for Staying Calm in the Midst of Chaos." She holds a B.G.S. from the University of Michigan and a J.D. from George Washington University.

New Year: 6 Keys to Making Money Resolutions Stick
Pamela Yellen
President
Bank On Yourself
"1) Understand that real, permanent change is usually driven by your own desire, rather than outside pressure. 2) Enlist allies to help you stay on track. An ally – whether a professional for hire, a friend, or other mentor – can help you reinforce your commitment. 3) Set incentives and consequences. When you make your commitment binding, you increase your chances of success. Plus, it's fun to reward yourself when you reach a goal! 4) Don't set yourself up for failure by insisting on an all-or-nothing change. This is one of the main reasons people fail at keeping New Year's resolutions or achieving other goals. Don't fall victim to the voice in your head that says 'You blew it.' 5) Remind yourself of your goals. Sometimes all it takes to stay on track is to pause and consider whether what you about to buy is more important than your goal. One of my favorite ways to do this is to wrap my charge cards in a picture or a few words describing my goals. Every time I take out a credit card, I'm reminded of why I am saving. 6) Skip the pity party when you fall short. Most successful New Year's goal-setters faltered for five consecutive years or even more before they ever succeeded. Those who rebound the fastest are the ones who set aside emotional thinking and formulate a plan to get back on track."
Yellen is a financial investigator and the author of two New York Times best-selling books, including her latest, "The Bank on Yourself Revolution: Fire Your Banker, Bypass Wall Street, and Take Control of Your Own Financial Future." Yellen investigated more than 450 financial strategies seeking an alternative to the risk and volatility of stocks and other investments, which led her to a time-tested, predictable method of growing wealth now used by more than 500,000 Americans.

New Year: In 2019, Join the Responsible Investing Movement
Michael Yorba
CEO
WFN1.com
"These days, people are picking out cultures in companies that are developed by the C-suite management team that align with their values. Do you give charitably to causes for cancer or cancer research? Are you participating in healthy employees by providing them clean water in their office instead of making them drink tap water? Are you concerned about women's rights? People are making investing decisions based on their own ethics, their own morals, and their own beliefs."
An expert in thought leadership for entrepreneurs, Yorba pioneered news networks for business as president and CEO of WFN1.com, a multimedia broadcast network featuring radio, television, and online distribution. As host of CEO Money, a podcast with an audience of more than 5 million people worldwide, he explores how CEOs and entrepreneurs are disrupting business and changing the world.

An Unexpectedly Delightful Top 3 Paris Must-See List
David Sheppe
Program Leader
American Friends for the Preservation of Saint Germain des Prés
"1) Le Pont de Bir-Hakeim: This beautiful steel bridge crosses the Seine River in Paris, offering perhaps the best view of the Eiffel Tower in the city (which also makes this one of the top Parisian wedding-photo locales). You can drive over the bridge, but more interestingly, you can also traverse it by foot on the pedestrian level and take your time enjoying the spectacular views. As a fun cultural side note, the bridge is featured in the beginning of the film 'Inception' when Leonardo DiCaprio's character Dom teaches Ariadne (played by Ellen Page) how to build dreams. 2) Le Marché de Belleville: Who doesn't love an outdoor market, especially when traveling abroad? Le Marché de Belleville farmers market is a truly local Parisian experience, with affordable fresh foods and prepared meals as well as flea-market style wares from multicultural vendors. 3) Église Saint Germain des Prés: The church at Saint Germain des Prés is 15 centuries old -- the oldest church in Paris -- and features stunningly beautiful and intricate murals and stonework. Nearly torn down after the French Revolution, the church was saved by famed author Victor Hugo ('Les Misérables,' 'The Hunchback of Notre-Dame'), among others. It has influenced and shaped people, places, and ideas throughout history, including the famous philosopher Descartes, and the nearby Sorbonne University students and teachers. Welcoming to locals and tourists, religious and secular alike, the church invites all to explore its rich history and learn about current efforts to preserve this cultural icon."
Sheppe has enjoyed a long career in international banking and now works as a financial and risk management consultant. It was while living in Paris in the 1980s that he first took an interest in the church of Saint Germain des Prés, and he has been a frequent visitor ever since. From 2013 to 2016, he was once again a Paris resident, and it was then that he became acquainted with the work of the "Fonds de Dotation," the Paris-based fundraising arm for renovating the church. Following his return to the U.S. in 2016, Sheppe did volunteer work for the U.S.-based American Friends for the Preservation of Saint Germain des Prés, before joining its Board in 2017. He is now leading the charge on the current Adopt A Saint Germain Star campaign in the United States. Sheppe is a graduate of Dartmouth College and Cornell University. He resides in southwest Connecticut.

The Key to Compassion in the Digital Age? Pets
Carol Novello
President
Mutual Rescue
"Animals, for those of us who resonate with them, are an entry point to living in the moment. And in the face of technology and the multitude of devices that are constantly pulling us out of the present -- and out of our lives -- dogs and cats are one of the few ways we can easily be pulled back in."
Novello is the founder of Mutual Rescue, a national initiative that highlights the life-changing power of human-animal relationships. The initiative's first short film, "Eric & Peety," went viral around the world with almost 100 million views, prompting an influx of submissions to be considered for inclusion in the ongoing Mutual Rescue film series. A former senior software executive at Intuit, Novello earned her MBA from Harvard Business School and is proud to include three rescue animals in her family: a German Shepherd named Tess and two cats, Herbie and Bode.
