It's actually a great time to snap up oil assets again with the oil price heading to $80.A 250bopd producer bought at the right price could be an excellent addition to the company. I was a little a surprised by the negativity on here earlier on this morning.

Zenith Energy
Andrea Cattaneo has never concealed his plans to size up Zenith with potential acquisitions and today he has announced and exclusivity agreement for a number of production and exploration licences in an unnamed ‘Central Asian Country’. A sizeable package of 3,600²km of which 550 is production and 3,050 ‘highly prospective exploration’ and are located in a prolific oil and gas basin with a proven petroleum system.

Expect more details after due diligence has taken place as well as the arrangement of financing which we are told will be a combination of debt and equity all the time trying to avoid dilution. This is a potentially significant deal for Zenith and apparently with ‘geographical proximity’ to the company’s primary operational interests in Azerbaijan and with the ability to ‘generate significant revenues on a monthly basis’. The agreement runs until April 30th or before if the deal is executed. Zenith is another exciting company in the sector which is partaking in the current shake up of the international asset base where interesting and potentially value added acquisitions are being found…

We should remember that AC holds 2.5% of the stock in ZEN. He has also stated in interviews that his family members hold significant amounts of stock too. I am sure he will want the potential high impact news from Z28/ Z21 to hit the market before any placing activity.

Not happy with this update at all. This is a distraction from the real work of proving Azeri assets, there is not need for it at all. It will definitely lead to dilution in one form or another, further reducing shareholder value. I have subsequently reduced my holding here. Depending on the next operational update, I may call it a day altogether. I now understand why the Canadians never took to this company.Cash

Cynic that I am about AC, but there was no need to release an RNS about an Asian acquisition at this time, unless it was to brighten up the future outlook to get a placing away.

Yes, I don't think it will be an expensive transaction but potential could be very good. Overall a good sign of the ambition the company has going forward.

It could also that the reserves are very modest as its only 250 BOPD so it might be quite cheap. ZEN does not need to buy assets with large reserves as the P2 number are already very high.

Any proposed dilution to fund this transaction will be easily off set against the fact it's a producing asset that adds value to the company.However, I don't think we'll see any moves with regard to this until workover news is announced and the stock is trading significantly higher.

Unusual to release an RNS like this if it was going to be funded with a placing.

I expect this could be done through debt and favorable weighting (eg WI : NRI ratio) with the current asset owner.
