The current flurry will be the short term traders taking a punt on the assay!

I was trying to understand the value of a deposit. My starting point is what is the cost of extraction. The closest company I can find focussed on cu in the first world would indicate extraction costs around $1.60/lb. Assuming a market value of $5/lb, that would suggest that the gross margin per lb of $3.40. The gross margin on 2MT (vol still a major assumption) at $3.40 is $15.2Bn.

Time value of money, risk of cu price, risk of operations, political risk, imprecise comparisons etc all eat into that margin substantially. That said there would appear to be plenty of scope to get a bit of gearing into XTR!

Assay results will be critical on Tonnes and then there is the drilling programme. The indications look good, but then this is an industry full of hype. I remain cynically optimistic.

lurker,

thanks and valid points...but I'll take a 3% in situ value next week if Colin hits the 2Mt target, and the implied value / share price for XTR on that basis

Re 'In Ground Values'. These always depend on many factors including, basically, how easy/costly/soon; how large for economies of scale; and how desperately any buyer needs it to plug a gap in his own production (and how desperate is the seller) - plus whether he has the cash - plus the state of the lending market! The metal price is a major factor - but only if it can be projected reliably to when production might start. Having said which a higher price means more margin over costs and fears, so the % paid will be higher all other things being equal. 3% was a 'benchmark average over a wide range' for easy to mine gold in Africa at the time of the last metals boom in 2011. No stats that I know of for copper. And stats for gold covered a long period when the price fluctuated wildly. So the whole concept is very very woolly. For Bushranger it will boil down to whether someone fills all those requirements at the time. If lots of other Lachlan Fold projects come right at the same time, costs will go up and competition for buyers will too ! So its a case of many many crossed fingers.

so how much does Anglo's buy-in now value XTR at on 2Mt?

2Mt @ $5/lb (= $11,000/ t) = $22bln...in situ value at 5% say is $1.1bln

at 1.4 fx that is £787mln x 80% = £629mln....735 mln shares in issue

85p a share.

Even 2.5% in situ value equates to 42p a share.

I'm a big fan of PXC too. Have been accumulating over there for a while, so very nice to see the break out, but it's small beer compared to what's going to happen over the next couple of years.....

My view in this market is that if you want to make real money, find a small cap copper explorer which is proving up a very large copper resource, preferably one in a safe country with a pro mining government.

I'm a holder here & will remain so until AAL come forwards and have their buy-in triggered....but in terms of you comment above Count - take a look at PXC as this ticks all of those boxes and is my buy and hold for the next 2-7 years. Stunning value sub £50mln..CFO targeting a $1bln Company value. Based in Idaho, USA
