Seans - the most annoying thing now is the 8 digit code needed to log in - sometimes it logs you out for no reason too - Barclays

As above, there was no charge to me personally. But that was because they were closing down all pension trader accounts. For a different account I would guess that there would be a charge for specie transfers. If you do decide to move, speak to your destination broker and ask them to cover your exit fees. I think you will find that most will accommodate you.

They don't charge, they don't want you, they just take their time

MorphWhat did barclays charge you to leave? I am thinking of leaving but since the smart investor debacle there is a massive backlog of people leaving, so I thought I wait until it calmed down a bit. You are right though, they are terrible.

I may be wrong but in my view, stop loss should be executed when share price reaches to that value..i.e. there has to be atleast one buy or sell at that price and then they can execute your stop loss order now that market / share price has reached that value....Should not it be like above instead of lowering the share price just to pick the stop loss order and thereby creating panic in the market which can lead to further snowball effect? With atleast two such experiences with me, I am lead to believe that they can see stop loss orders from a long way...Somebody enlighten me please....sorry for off the topic.

Malcolmmm....i had similar experience with HL...i.e. share price dipped just to catch my stop loss point....i called them next day and they explained that they will sell stock if buyer's offer meets your stop loss point....i.e. if stock buyer's offer price is 265p and seller's offer price is 275P and last trade is, lets say at 273P....then M Ms will dip the share price to 265 and execute my stop loss sale....and then in next moment share price will jump back to 273ish.......mp

Hi DorQ,

Hope all is well with you?

Since using Stockopedia, I find I'm more STBH albeit I generally do not exit shares unless they have failed to come up to my hopes in either a TS or results RNS. Indeed, I am currently much more invested in what Stockopedia views as High Flyers where any disappointment in results or outlook can be quite damaging albeit it sometimes takes a few days or more for the full effect to be seen. On the other hand one has the positive excitement of shares likes KWS.

Best wishes, Martin

I have found HL pretty good over the years but you have to watch the stop losses as I am pretty sure the market can see them and on more than one occasion the share price has spiked 10% lower for a split second to grab my shares.

Shanks,

When I transferred my cash went over almost immediately - but the equities did take about 2 weeks. Keep enough cash and maybe sell your dubious holdings :0). You're a LTBH investor surely in any case!

shanklin i dont disagree and can understand that point of view, i found it very annoying at the time but in hindsight did me good not to be able to 'fiddle'....i try not to be in things with profit warnings! : )

Moving from Barclays took me 3 months. Lucky for me I sold 3 holdings and put the lot in xlm as I have a long term interest. Since that episode, I've broken all ties with barclays. I'll never use them for anything else ever. Unbelievable company with zero respect for their clients.

PI, I did the same today as you. I think ZOO is way overbought at the moment.
I am a refugee from PAYS. XLM was the best choice after PAYS.

I have not transferred between providers for many years but two weeks of not being able to trade is a big disincentive to moving IMHO. One nasty profits warning on a stock one decides to retain could do an awful lot of damage.

you can trade with your current provider until the stop date happens when they actually agree on the assets to be transferred and the approximate price. So with my transfer for most accounts it was c.2 weeks of not being able to trade. Other than the sipp which is still ongoing.

Mind you HL's £500 reward would be quite handy albeit switching leaves one unable to trade for an undefined period.

Must say I agree with simso about the ii charging structure. Given one can offset dealing costs against the £22.50/quarter fixed charge, and said dealing costs are lower than TDW. I don't see any problem on that front. If I do at least 2 trades per quarter on average my overall costs will be less than with TDW and with any trades above that I will be saving money overall.

So I am more interested in their deal execution and provided that is OK I see no reason to switch.
