Something not right here judging by recent share price weakness...CFO leaving may suggest a problem. Anyone know anything?

not a great deal happening to share price though...

market is forward looking , hence with China stabilisng, would expect Xaar to begin to re-rate..

happy to stick with the stock for next 12 - 24 months... would be pleasant to see some sign of "life" in the share price though..

The UK's first Xaar Print Bar now being used in digital printing etc:

Extracts:

"Proprint Group Invests in UK's First Graphium Hybrid UV Inkjet Press Released: 28/09/2016 13:13:00

ProPrint Group are the first UK company to invest in the FFEI Graphium hybrid flexographic and UV inkjet label press. Supplied by Edale, the Graphium will be installed at ProPrint’s Wellingborough facility later this year and will add highly flexible digital label, packaging and light carton printing capabilities to the company’s production environment. The press also features the UK’s first Xaar Print Bar for the application of inline digital special effects."

"‘The time is right for us to add digital printing now and the Graphium is very strategic investment for us which marks an exciting new phase for ProPrint which also sees us expanding our production space by 50%,” says founder and director James Denny. “The label market is dynamic and changes rapidly and our philosophy is to change with it and meet the evolving needs of customers. My co-director Nigel Tollman and I looked at the digital technologies currently available but were most impressed by the Graphium and the FFEI, Edale, and Xaar technologies it incorporates. The combination of conventional and digital printing capabilities gives us the power and flexibility to produce a wide range of products with the ability to add variable data and a variety of special and tactile effects all on the one press.”

ProPrint’s 420mm width, four-colour + white Graphium press combines workflow, digital and flexographic print and automated semi-rotary finishing in one complete production system. The system delivers the ultimate in 50m/min single-pass flexibility, quality and efficiency by integrating an Edale FL3 web transport with two flexo stations, an FFEI digital print engine using Xaar 1002 printheads, an inkjet Xaar Print Bar, followed by lamination and automated semi-rotary die cutting. The Xaar Print Bar System incorporates Xaar 1002 printheads with TF Technology™ giving the ability to jet a range of inks and fluids enabling the application of digital special effects using protective lacquers, high-build spot varnish and cold foil adhesives. The Graphium uses Fujifilm UVijet inkjet ink to deliver high quality results on a wide range of coated and uncoated label and light carton board substrates from 40-600 micron in thickness."

Reasonable results this morning given low expectations, with H1 adjusted PBT slightly down at £8.8m, a 5% dividend increase and £69m net cash (before the 1/7 EPS acquisition for £8.5m).

More importantly for this H2:

- "the recent devaluation of sterling provides a significant competitive benefit to us since over 95% of our production is exported world-wide, with the majority being denominated in sterling"

- "the Board anticipates revenue growth in the second half of 2016 compared to the first six months of the year, before the addition of the newly acquired EPS business which contributes from 1 July 2016"

- "our vision to grow annual sales to £220 million by 2020 supported by four strategic pillars: ceramics, packaging and product printing, Thin Film, and partnerships and acquisitions"

A better article re the above with the missing paragraph below:

"“The wide-format graphics market has been waiting for a flexible, high-resolution printhead which delivers the very best combination of photo quality and productivity, at an affordable cost,” says Bob Bobertz, Director of Sales, Asia. “No other printhead comes close to producing the impressive levels of performance delivered by the new Xaar 1201 and we are not surprised by the response to this printhead from manufacturers around the world. Xucheng has moved quickly to take advantage of the new printhead and, in addition to their new eco-solvent printers, the company plans to introduce aqueous models using the Xaar 1201 in the future.”"

Good news today from China:

"Xaar announces the launch of the first Xaar 1201 printers in China

Cambridge: 22 August 2016 – Xaar plc, the leader in industrial inkjet technology, is delighted to announce that Guangzhou Xucheng Electronic Technology Ltd “Xucheng” is the first OEM partner to develop, and launch, wide-format inkjet printers based on the innovative new Xaar 1201 Thin Film piezo printhead.

Xucheng, under the brand name Xu Li, has produced four wide-format, roll-to-roll eco-solvent printers with the Xaar 1201 and recently demonstrated two models ‒ the X7-3207 and X7-2007 ‒ for the first time at ISE in Guangzhau, China.

"It’s an honour to work with Xaar, a leader in the world wide inkjet industry,” says James Zhao, General Manager of Xucheng. “Xaar already dominates the coding and marking and ceramic tile inkjet printing markets and I am certain that with the Xaar 1201 we are entering a new era in the graphics industry. Xucheng is very proud to be part of this.”

The Xaar 1201, announced at drupa in June, is a versatile and compact greyscale printhead. It prints 1, 2 or 4 colours, delivers a high level of quality and performance, and is capable of handling aqueous and eco-solvent inks. Designed for easy integration...... "

The spread is now down to only 3p - it just needs a little patience. Seen it too often with other stocks too (i.e RNWH). As the day goes on the spread gets whittled away to nothing.

Encouraging interview quotes here:

Extracts:

"Xaar's chief financial officer Alex Bevis said: "We've had a really busy first half, a really successful Drupa and a lot going on internally, so it's really nice to have a trading statement which is in line with our expectations."

"Bevis said Xaar would continue to be on the lookout for interesting companies, potentially in different markets.

"There could be some consolidation opportunities within the product printing space that we have just entered with EPS but there are opportunities elsewhere that we are also considering. Globally we are looking at a couple of things in Europe and the other big market for us is China," he added.

The firm’s net cash position on 30 June, before the EPS acquisition was completed on 1 July, was £69m (31 December 2015: £70m).

The company recently announced it was targeting ambitious growth plans to more than double annual turnover to £220m by 2020, with sales of at least £50m expected from each of its ceramic tile decoration, packaging, textiles and wide-format and 3D printing segments."

Good interview with the CEO:

Brief extracts:

"Xaar has taken the inaugural step on its ambitious growth plan to double sales by 2020 and secured its first ever acquisition."

"Earlier this year, Edwards said he wanted to use the UK headquartered firm’s £70m war chest to to more than double sales from £93.5m last year to £220m by 2020. Speaking in March, he said areas that he would target included integration that helps customers cut down their development time and also ones that speeded the adoption of direct-to-shape printing."

"EPS’s technology is used for a wide range of applications ranging from promotional products, apparel and packaging to automotive and medical.

According to Edwards: “They have a very diverse offering and it will be good feedback for us, because these are areas we’re looking to grow in and having this level of end customer feedback will help our development efforts.”

While EPS is a global business, the majority of its customers are based in North America.

“Today around 5% of our revenue is in the Americas, so this propels us and gives us a good footprint here,” said Edwards.

He added that while Xaar’s strategic goal is to more than double sales by 2020, it wasn’t necessarily putting itself under any pressure to complete more deals this year, although it was “on the lookout”.

“When we talked about the 2020 vision we talked about the four key [£50m] pillars and this sits in the packaging and product printing pillar and this deal gets a pretty good way to the £50m in that pillar.”

In terms of other areas for M&A activity, Edwards said the product printing space was still an attractive area of opportunity for future deals."
