Actually it wasn't the high - I sold at 1257p and I think it flashed up a penny or two higher than that. IG reports the high as 1259.50p. Well done on your profit!

Kantar boss Eric Salama is weighing up a £3.5bn sell-off of ad giant WPP's data and market research division, according to reports today.

Salama has been running Kantar, the data, market research and consultancy wing of WPP since 2003, and is allegedly looking into the possibility of selling this part of the business in what could be the first step in its break-up.

The ad group hit the headlines recently when its chief executive of 33 years Martin Sorrell stood down, following his board launching an investigation into allegations against him.

Sorrell's departure fuelled speculation that WPP could be broken up by its board.

A report in the Times today suggests that though Salama is reluctant to sell-off Kantar, he is still keeping the possibility of a sale on the table as he is sounding out backers for a potential deal.

Salama is one of the internal WPP names in the hat to take over from Sorrell, alongside Wunderman boss Mark Read.

Earlier this month, a memo sent to staff from Read explained that he did not think a break-up of the company made sense.

But a spokesperson for WPP told City A.M it was too soon to speculate on any sell-off.

They said:

Can’t see first quarter being as bad as 2017. Winter Olympics, commonwealth games just gone and World Cup coming up, China looks promising for the future ,stronger pound.

You are utterly delusional if you believe that threads like this make any difference whatsoever. This isn't some AIM tiddler, it's a multi-billion global enterprise. Get real!

PS - My comment here is now rather redundant as you have edited your idiotic post after the event. What a complete to$$er you are 'careful'!

in the long term the fundamentals of this business is all that matters.
profit, cash flow, prospects.
Iis it vulnerable to losing business now that Sorrel has left?

Ford acct alone is worth $500m a year. Their relationship with WPP is under review. Old news perhaps but it was mentioned again in this morning's business news. As they would say on both Fleet Street and Wall Street, this story has 'legs'. Both other big accounts and competitors alike will watch keenly.

"the musings of a few herberts on a financial BB are not going to make the very slightest of difference to the share price of this company."

Obviously.

Oh, there's plenty of likely candidates. Elliott is already currently moving in on MCRO, which has been similarly slaughtered recently. That's up more than 50% from the lows. UK equities are cheap anyway - with this ridiculous shorting overkill it's not surprising that Hedge Funds and private equity are moving in to snap up dirt cheap stocks which may well be worth far more than the sum of the parts - like WPP. At this level it's more likely to be the johnny-come-lately shorts that get the roasting, not the longs.
