05/12/2017 09:41 | I keep it on a watchlist, never held. | essentialinvestor
05/12/2017 09:37 | I am actually thinking WPCT could be a good buy in the near future. It is staying on my watch list despite the problems so far | mad foetus
05/12/2017 09:35 | Agree with NW on some current bubble like valuations. Are many of his equity positions particularly well suited to weather a big equity downdraft?, Not sure on that. Another blow for him this morning on PFG. Where he has shown his skill over the last 12-18 months is mainly on his income fund exits. He astutely timed exits from CNA, GSK, BT.A, RMG. Deserves credit for that. | essentialinvestor

02/12/2017 22:34 | Prothena has a webcast dated 30/11 on its web site under investors, 20 mins long but backs up all what NW stated in his Prothena blog of late. On the PRONTO read out (still on schedule) there was more detail that I found positive. I think one point of the Kerridge report was lack of imaging on the heart, this point was covered as well.... all in all quite reassuring. Though all parties will have to wait but if it has the success rate above what was noted by NW then there appears to be a quick route to market in Europe. | gwatson56

02/12/2017 08:05 | A lengthy interview in the FT (WPCT in the second half): “There are 20 businesses in my Patient Capital portfolio that I believe could be multibillion-dollar organisations in three to five years’ time. That doesn’t mean the other 60 are going to fall over. It just means that they won’t be as successful, but we think most of them will be.” | jonwig
01/12/2017 20:59 | Patient means patient! | minerve
01/12/2017 17:53 | Well it did say patient on the tin. How long's a piece of string? How long does it take to prove patience? I don't know but it's at least 3 yrs. Remember the old - "invest with a 3-5 yrs horizon"? No mention of patient. This is probably 6-10 to deserve the patient word. | p1nkfish
01/12/2017 15:48 | Brian,You don't know anything about the people who post here so don't be an idiot. Of course you can make money trading any share, but this has moved within a 20p range in the three years since launch. It would have been much easier to trade something with volatility or in an uptrend. Woodford himself admits this has been a disappointment. The only question anyone need to consider is whether this is the best place to be invested at the moment. I would compare it to RMMC, which was launched around the same time, invests in micro-caps, and is over 90% ahead. Shouting at people makes you look like your ego is more important than your balance, which, in the long term, is no way to approach the market. | mad foetus
01/12/2017 14:44 | careful Oxford Whale .... you will be labelled a troll like me for even hinting of any bearishness | rackers1
01/12/2017 09:40 | Early stage biotech and tech does not usually fair well if a wider stock market "bubble" deflates. Find it increasingly difficult to take the man seriously. | essentialinvestor
01/12/2017 08:53 | many thanks mad will take a look | ttg100
01/12/2017 08:31 | Ttg,Although they are volatile, if you are looking at absolute return funds the ones from Polar Capital and City Financial are the standouts, but there is a question over how much protection they give in a downturn. Ardevora do a long/short Fund that I like a lot. I don't see the point of those aiming for 3% a year. | mad foetus
01/12/2017 08:28 | sorry jonwig but I agree and am now 97.3% cash which is really boring and keep itching to buy some "bargains" but just don't seem able to pull the trigger. Am going to research some Absolute Return funds to put a few pennies in GL everyone | ttg100
01/12/2017 07:13 | Who is this Woodford and why is he giving capital to patients? | volsung
01/12/2017 07:10 | N W is in the FT: Neil Woodford, the UK’s most high-profile fund manager, has said he believes stock markets around the world are in a “bubble” which when it bursts could prove “even bigger and more dangerous” than some of the worst market crashes in history. I can't disagree with him on that. Much of his WPCT portfolio will need funding rounds: has he the firepower? | jonwig |
