The problem with cold fusion is that it requires the laws of physics to be rewritten.

Sure. I agree. One has to form an opinion on whether it is achievable eventually.

@Minerve 2 - I know. The point is that the scientific method of ruling out possible causes of something only works/counts as progress when there's a "something" to work towards. Link/Woody/WPCT massively increased IH's valuation in the WPCT NAV in 2018 based on ruling things out when there's no actual "something" to find the answer to.

Specto My comment was a general comment not my opinion on cold fusion.

@Jonwig - post 9568 ;) @Minerve 2 - post 8420: "...IH declared progress because they'd ruled out some fusion approaches. Seriously. Sure, in science if you've ruled out certain reasons why something is happening, you're theoretically and probably practically closer to finding out the real cause. Trouble is, there isn't a "real cause" where cold fusion is involved."

Ahh the concept of learning from other peoples' mistakes - nice idea but so rarely happens, particularly amongst AIM casino mug punters.

Ref IH's value. I know the usual methods for valuing but in the cases of start-ups you have a lot of sunk costs that have generated - one would hope - a lot of valuable IP that would accelerate an interested acquirer to reach an objective. Even if the IP gave you insight into how NOT to do things. Just imagine how much the IP would have been worth to Edison which would tell him that 500 plant fibres were not suited to the electric lightbulb. How much time and cost that would have saved and the competitive advantage gained by entering the market much earlier. In other words, 'negative' intellectual property does have inherent value.

Correct - if WEIF had been set up as in investment trust he wouldn't have raised so much money so quickly and his investment performance would have been much better He made the wrong call on brexit so it would still be down - but not by nearly as much Every time all the institutional investors have sold out and woody is left holding the dog that's fallen 90 because he couldn't sell

@ Spec - actually, his stated reasoning (a tax bill) is plausible, as he must have sold around the last week of July, and the 31st is a personal tax payment deadline. Of course, when somebody bends the truth nobody believes him when he's being straight!

Just in case you've all forgotten: Https://citywire.co.uk/investment-trust-insider/news/woodford-patient-leaps-on-spike-from-industrial-heat/a1157456 Well worth reading and digesting. Hope no one's forgotten Woody quietly dumping 60% of his personal shareholding in WPCT just over 6 weeks ago either? After the sale process for the unicorns - inc IH - had begun. [@kooba - no. Eg being forced out of his IMB holding has saved c.£200m in further losses. Yes, the fund got comically unbalanced, but no - he wasn't exiting future winners with very few exceptions].

The Board has been notified by Link that it intends to reduce the valuation of the Company's holding in IH Holdings International Limited. This is expected to impact the Company's net asset value by approximately 3.4 pence per share and will be reflected in the Company's net asset value as at 23 August 2019 (which will be announced to the market on 27 August 2019).

@ CC2014 - what's a minor accountancy issue? The auditors of the ESL 2018 accounts put group materiality at £1.1m, a bit over 1% of turnover which I think is fairly typical of a trading business. £2m would be quite a significant issue!

There are a lot of well run cautiously managed companies on the LSE. Woodford is invested in none of them!
