But it also makes you wonder if the Board are telling the whole truth and nothing but the truth...or the entire set up is in a circus mode...

He averages down in the worst possible way, buying more as a companies prospects get worse.

Capita was a prime example of this.

I honestly believe he thinks he is never wrong but the market gets it wrong.

He was great when the market moved his way but unable to adapt when things moved against him.

A classic mistake that has been the undoing of many legendary investors and traders like the great Jesse Livermore who made and lost millions he ended up taking his own life when it all went wrong.(not wishing the same on Woodford obviously)

ltcm1 - give the holders 10 - 15% now. Whatever NW has been able to salvage. Then pay back the other 10% over a period of, say, 10 years or so.

Do the investors have any idea of how much they have lost in Weif???

SweetKarolina presented an interesting 'lifeboat' picture today, with other funds mopping up the Woodford mess and absorbing the holdings into their portfolios. But why should they subsidise Woody's nightmare empire??? Yes a rescue of sorts could happen but also it could unravel into a horrible ugly denouemont.

I can't help wondering if people in the main are expecting to get their 90% back, I think they could be in for a rude awakening.

One thing you have to give Woodford credit for. While bagholder Woody normally rides shares all the way down to the bottom, with WPCT he managed to sell a £1.6million stake a month ago, avoiding the 25% collapse in the share price since then. I take it all back, he truly is a financial genius.

I think my last paragraph recognises that. But you need an independent party (not easy) to assess the true worth of the portfolio. Fees to the new AM relate to a clean valuation, but WPCT needs a new AM. All this talk of still needing NW because he knows the portfolio best is garbage as he either does not have a true grip over the portfolio, or there would be the danger of track-covering or the emotional inability to let go of certain things.

Only the current weak BOD feels unable to make the necessary change, at least in an appropriate time frame.

Woodford reminds me of my younger investing self..seeing bad news as a chance to get more rather than a warning, taking bigger positions in the hope of an upswing etc. Shamateur, on a grand scale. Just glad I realised and sold out before any major damage was done. It was his large stakes here in the high risk prothena and others that made me realise he’d lost it. I do wonder though why no-one inside WIM questioned his methodology surely someone would have flagged up the dangers of large stakes in illiquid companies?

Cuck01,

As has been discussed before on here, a new manager is unlikely to take on the fund at the current NAV, he would want the portfolio revalued prior to his tenure.

Another day, yet another mini-disaster for NW. Not just the share price of BUR, but all the Woodford/Barnett shenanigans as reported by MW. That’s actually worse than merely abject stock selection as it points to an overall modus operandi that taints a wide range of his remaining portfolio (in all funds).

I remain short WPCT (averaging in from the 60s) as the NAV is meaningless. For Careful to cite a 50% discount being an invitation to value-seekers mistakes such people as fools. A 40% discount to a meaningfully revamped NAV and we may be talking. But there is no sign of such revamp as the whole edifice would collapse at that time.

A change in fund manager almost immediately along with a proper appraisal of the portfolio is merely the starting point. Necessary, but perhaps not yet sufficient.

I think of more interest are his comments about Burnett allagedly helping Burford out when they lost a case, plus the comments about Woodford and Burnett boosting company valuations with small investments.

tim 3 it looks a bottomless pit to me.

I calculate that WEIF is down 2.7% today just on account of BUR.
This is a terrible state of affairs.

I think it's about time wiggy changed the title of this thread to something like "how I nailed the truth about BUR and LIT". It would be much funnier and wittier than anything he's had so far....

But remember, wiggy is much poorer now so we should not make more fun of him.
