classic merger arbitrage - they were not naked shorts - covered with conversion of AMEC stock to WG stock.

IMHO looks like there is a post merger stock overhang.

Just been checking out the short interest tracker and it appears that the % shorts has gone from 18+% on 8/10 to 2.9% on 9/10 to 2.31% on the 10/10. Is this real or a mistake on the short interest tracker website? If so this has gone from the most shorted stock in the country to one of the least overnight. Anyone have any ideas. There was a massive volume spike of 60+ million selling on the 6/10.
If this is correct with the chart looking the way it is this is going to rocket.....or is it too much wine and wishful thinking on my part?

Was with AMFW and a tad under water still, but looking for income so a divi next April is what I want !!

So why re they short? Not a loaded question (as people think I only short), just wondered if there are any rumours??? Same with w morrisons the supermarket. massive 15% short position there too. I struggle to see why they are unless there is some accounting problem

I think the 4% div and interim due at the end of the month should see the price stabilise around these levels.Happy to hold and wait and see if there is an up turn

Approaching a 5 year low - If holds might be a buying opportunity BUT negatives - Fraud investigations - merger ? - and North Sea decline plus weakness in POO.

However if breaks then chartwise next support level appears to be in the region of 400p

Thoughts?

Ref. my post 328 Interim divi 11.1 cents, up 3% ex date 1st September.

Thinking of picking some up, will be getting a wad after the AMFW deal completes anyway.

Still holding. Added again on that contract news.
Can't help thinking there's going to be an almighty short squeeze coming soon. Not overly exposed here, but confident enough to continue to hold, and add either on news, or into any sustained rise.

I bought in today oilies seem to be making a profit now so spending on infrastructure and support should increase.We may have seen the worst and any positive news could see the shorts closing out. Maybe one last dip lower before a turn.

There should be an announcement on the interim divi around this time, I haven't seen anything, anyone better informed than me :-;

I've been wondering about that too Wantage, the shorts have been rising sharply over the last few weeks. The accounts are diffficult to read but not indecipherable. Cash is the key focus for hedgies and it's definitely under pressure here with debt rising. I need to go back and analyse the accounts again but I don't, currently, see wood group as a basket case, unlike say Telit group for example!

Pennycae - I'm tempted to get in, hold AMFW and well under water on them. Once the takeover complete there should be considerable synergies and cost savings and hopefully no more of this 'shorting' rubbish haha.

Yes, could be a "special situation" developing here. Still hammering WG. Values AMFW proportionately higher, but at these prices, not by much.
Millions being made here.
Added a few this morning, waiting for the short covering to start.
