15/3/2019 19:03 | Hello, is that a 5 i see? The market is waking up to the true value of our cash pile and hotel chain. | rimau1

13/2/2019 23:40 | Market report: Whitbread shares rose 2.9 per cent, or 138p, to 4901p after it said it could afford to give around £2.5billion back to investors following the £3.9billion sale of Costa Coffee. Ahead of its capital markets meetings, broker Liberum was seeking more clarity following the Costa disposal. Some in the Square Mile think Whitbread, which also owns the Beefeater and Brewers Fayre pub-restaurants, is a prime takeover target, with Intercontinental Hotels Group and Marriott International tipped as potential bidders. | philanderer
13/2/2019 15:52 | It seems to me that: a fair number of shareholders being in your camp Jeffian (and, by the way, you can count me in) + stingy tender offer terms = unhappy shareholders = more chance of an early takeover. Maybe an over-simplification on my part, but I leave the complicated stuff to the BREXIT politicians! | ygor705
13/2/2019 15:43 | So the question now is at what price will the tender offer be set? More than likely it will be based on some sort of average price over a defined period. | ygor705
13/2/2019 15:09 | philanderer - yes - see slides 33 and 78-83 | sharw
13/2/2019 14:56 | I hate share buybacks, particularly when they are termed "returning cash to shareholders" (Translation: returning cash to ex-shareholders). | jeffian
13/2/2019 14:32 | Yes , and German expansion plans I guess ? | philanderer
13/2/2019 13:57 | It is mainly on Premier Inn - the future. It has started and looks as if it will be a long one and you can watch here: Details on return of proceeds from Costa are the last item but looking at the slides it consists of £500m market buyback (started) and a £2bn tender offer (June). | sharw
13/2/2019 12:20 | Phil - the capital markets day is when they will talk about the proceeds of costa right? | mozy123
13/2/2019 12:04 | And Liberum reiterating 'hold' .. tp 4800p up from 4450p | philanderer
12/2/2019 17:56 | Capital Markets day tomorrow | philanderer
06/2/2019 12:18 | Unless it's bid for, would be pretty sure you will get an opportunity to buy back for less. There is a strong cyclical element to Premier, and a reduction in EU labour may be a headwind. Very much a case of IMV only. High quality business though to be fair. | essentialinvestor
05/2/2019 21:37 | Sold out late Dec. to protect capital but wish I'd stayed now! Anyway I made a decent profit considering my original investment was when I started this thread so I shouldn't complain! | bountyhunter
05/2/2019 20:50 | Surprised no comment here much after a good share price reaction recently. Nobody into this? Too sensible a share for the bb's! | ariel yhwh
30/1/2019 12:42 | Love the talk of may be selling off Premier Inns, this a favourite part of the portfolio, expanding even further afield. | ariel yhwh
27/1/2019 10:30 | Top notch mixed grill at Beefeater uxbridge yesterday 👍 | philanderer
14/1/2019 18:00 | Ex Costa you are left with Premier Inn which I suspect will be taken out pronto thus effecting a complete trasfer of Whitbread's assets at very fancy multiples, the likes of which we would not have been likely to see in the previous structure. | ianood
14/1/2019 17:45 | To me they sold growth and the family silver, selling Costa. | montyhedge
14/1/2019 13:27 | Questor: wake up and smell the coffee – Whitbread minus Costa still has a bright future | philanderer
04/1/2019 23:26 | Yes, but I think that the point being made is that anyone who bought when AB took over would not be at all happy. If you bought when I started this thread and sold when AB took over that would have been a great investment return. The counter argument would be that the previous CEO may have chosen to retire when the future began to look less favourable. | bountyhunter
04/1/2019 23:22 | "What a dire investment these have been" That rather depends when you bought them! | jeffian |
