So good of them to reduce the price of my favourite cider, Kopparberg Strawberry and Lime to £1.99 and my favourite lager, Carlsberg to £2.29 for the summer months. Cheers!

Much busier round here this Week in all the Spoons.

Thailand - yeah that would be that Council Estate which is also right next to Waitrose. Most inner London Estates are very ethnic, in fact most of London is very ethnic, most people who haven't been here for awhile wouldn't know what Country they were in!

Waldron - Greenwich and Blackheath and generally SE is still a nice part of London - the Tunnel takes you to East London, Docklands and Canary Wharf - also quite nice in general. There are no poor parts of London anymore, it is all ridiculously expensive to buy anywhere.

theatre. just going to see Macbeth would be the same thing. Only Macbeth theatre probably wouldn't encourage you to alter your DNA in some mass experiment

Yes we can expect double figure inflation in autumn but then we could be back on the roller coaster of covid restrictions this winter and recession. That will drop again the energy prices at least for oil and what seems usual rinse and repeat cycle of 2020/21. Difficult to manage any investment portfolio with all this sh*t going on. But I do believe Spoons will survive but need a few years of stability before we get a decent return on share price .. GLA

Number of pubs falls by 7,000 in a decade to lowest number on record

There are now fewer than 40,000 pubs - the lowest number on record, according to new research.

There are 7,000 fewer pubs in England and Wales than there were 10 years ago, research has found.

Their total number dropped below 40,000 in the first half of 2022 - the lowest number on record, according to real estate advisers Altus Group.

Pubs have suffered setbacks in recent years due to the coronavirus pandemic, which forced them to close - and now because of increasing costs, the analysis suggested.

"Whilst pubs proved remarkably resilient during the pandemic, they're now facing new headwinds grappling with the cost of doing business crisis through soaring energy costs, inflationary pressures and tax rises," Robert Hayton, Altus Group's UK president, said.

Some 200 pubs disappeared from communities in England and Wales from the end of last year to the end of last month.

The biggest drop in the past six months was in the West Midlands, where 28 pubs were lost.

This was followed by London and the East of England, which each saw the loss of 24.

Only 37% of hospitality businesses are making a profit due to growing costs, according to research from the British Beer and Pub Association, British Institute of Innkeeping and UKHospitality.

Emma McClarkin, chief executive of the British Beer and Pub Association, said: "When pubs are forced to close it's a huge loss to the local community, and these numbers paint a devastating picture of how pubs are being lost in villages, towns and cities across the country.

"As a sector we have just weathered the hardest two years on memory, and we now face the challenge of extreme rising costs, with only one in three hospitality businesses currently profitable.

"It's essential that we receive relief to ease these pressures or we really do risk losing more pubs year on year."

Pubs recently warned that the rail and Tube strikes were also hitting their sales.

The founder of City Pub Group in London, Clive Watson, said he may have lost as much as 25% of usual sales in June due to the strikes' impact on social outings.

I suppose you have to remember people actually live there too, so caters for allsorts, same with Greenwich. There's a big (probably listed now) Council Estate near the Cutty Sark next to the million pound flats! haha
I like in fact, keeps it a bit Earthy and Real round there and adds to the Character, ;)

Well there's not many places around Canary Wharf which stinks of Sports Cars and Bond Street Boutiques/Jeweler's where you can get Fish and Chips and a pint of Corona for around a tenner! It actually fits in quite well with the other Bars along the strip too.
Even the Waitrose has a Champagne and Oyster Bar!

The other surprise one is the Ledger at Canary Wharf, West India Key, in a Grade I listed building. Probably the poshest one I've been in. It's a Lloyds brand but probably only a quid so dearer on the drinks front and food not a lot of difference and even does the allday Coffee's @£1.20 - has a nice outside bit too. :)
I can confirm there's no obvious druggies, louts or nee'r do wells in either of those two. :)

Most Pubs in Greenwich are charging around the £6 mark now for a pint - often exactly the same stuff you get in the Spoons!
Mind you at least the Greene King's do Happy Hours from 4-7pm 2for1 in the Week days. You just have to know where to go. ;)
Mind you with a 2 bed Flat costing North of £800k I doubt most care anyway! lol
