Hornblower that makes sense .. this level is clearly where there have been battles in the past ... also failed here on the way down to the secondary at £5.50!

You're right re NPD, seemingly a way off although that's how Fusion started. From Stifel-WANdisco makes three announcements: (i) it has filed a new blockchain patent, (ii) appoints a new VP Engineering (another rockstar as we peruse the cv), and (iii) it is trading "in line" and promises a trading update for August. We had expected WANdisco to debut in the blockchain market following management comments at the Stifel CSI Conference (11-13 June). Today's news does not disappoint: WANdisco intends to industrialize the current somewhat anarchic blockchain landscape, making blockchain 'enterpriseable' by addressing its weaknesses in reliability and throughput (Spoiler alert: blockchain transactions are slow transactions). We caution that WANdisco does not have an MVP (Minimum viable product) or a product roadmap and it has only filed the patent. But in truth, the approach is reminiscent of WANdisco's first DConE development – it too started with a white paper, hieroglyphics, solving what was considered to be an insolvable problem and the meeting of the founders David Richards and Dr. Yeturu Aahlad. Here, we see DConE as an extensible offer with blockchain as its third addressable market alongside Application Lifecycle Management and Multi//hybrid cloud. In time TAM here should match that of multi-cloud. However, WANdisco has neither guided on when/how it intends to commercialise the patent nor have we changed our forecasts. For the short term, WANdisco has confirmed that it is trading "in line" and it will give more details in August. Shares have been weak suffering from a lack of news since March. Today this imbalance is being addressed. We retain our Buy rating.News. WAND announces a new patent filing to protect the use of its DConE to resolve issues associated with public blockchain technology. This initiative follows the appointment of Dr. Ramki Thurimella Ph.D as VP of Research in January 2018.The challenge. According to WANdisco, public blockchains have a number of significant limitations which is a break on making the technology commercially viable. WANdisco's pending blockchain patent enables throughput that is "orders of magnitude higher than public blockchains".Tell me more. Remember the core attributes of DConEs are scalability, no single point of failure (a peer-to-peer architecture), manages consensus among distributed computing nodes and it is secure. With these attributes, building and maintaining blockchain-based enterprise applications should be simpler and more scalable than current technologies. Blockchain ledger has a copy of transactions to ensure its place in the chain – implicit in that approach is a compute overhead, WANdisco DConE addresses this (think of it as 'trust') differently with its consensus algo – we think (a quick view this morning) that WANdisco brings something very different, and viable to blockchain architecture.Use cases aplenty. DConE's blockchain application opens up the potential of blockchain technology to a broad variety of commercial applications. Think of areas like supply chain, banking, healthcare, retail, pharmal, government. The secret sauce. DConE solved the problem of establishing consensus in a distributed network. This, 'algorithmically-based consensus' should enable a decentralized network to arrive at an agreement about the state of the blockchain.Trading news. WANdisco states that it is trading in line with expectations. Diary date. A detailed trading update in mid-August.

A new broker note came out today with a £12.83 target price from Stifel who are one of the house brokers. They only forecast $24.5m in revenue this year with EBITDA of $1.3m so I'd expect that to be achieved so that's broadly what the market expects. H2 tends to be better than H1 anyway but especially with the new OEMs that should produce this half (not forgetting IBM!). I guess saying they're 'confident' that they're in line – they also say they have a 'burgeoning pipeline of opportunities' – so the two correlate as we're only at half year. From the note -Target price methodology. We use a blended model to arrive at our 12-month share price target, using discounted cash flow, sum-of- the-parts and free cash flow yield. While WANdisco has a number of adjacent growth opportunities, we believe the 'cash generation' bias in our valuation methodology reflects how investors see the benefits of subscription-based business models.

Last October's old closing high of 881.5p is the first line of defence (support).

It was an important high at the time and, from a chart perspective, it is reasonable to come back to 're-test' it.

A bounce from here would show strength with the expectation of going back towards the recent high of 1250p.

Closing much below 881.5p would show weakness, with an expectation to test the next support level.

The next support comes from a rising channel and its level depends on how long it takes to get there. Currently it is at 750p and rising.

I sold 525 at £9 which is annoying as I had an offer for £9.20 but thought I'd see if there was more buying. I still have 1,000 which I'll keep until we're over £11 which is around what I paid for them.Hopefully the trading update in a couple of weeks will be positive with some decent commentary.

I sold around b/even on the news this morning, as need the capital for other trades.
Will monitor chart and sure to be back in soon.

Historical support zone is approx 830-880

That's not how it works Tickboo. All details of a patent application are made public so that third parties can inspect for infringement and oppose before grant if they feel they have grounds to do so, that is not the job of the IPO.

Anyway going way O/T now....

I didn't realise the detail had to be made public. I was under the impression the replication algorithm was not public and only with the patent authorities. Anyway, I'm speculating and have little knowledge in the area!

"They can still commercialise before a patent is issued. I’ve no doubt it will be a rather complex algorithm so tricky to do the maths to replicate (excuse the pun) anyway"

They can but at the risk that their pending patent is not granted (unlikely although it might be watered down e.g. the claims have to be narrowed) or challenged by a third party for infringement. Copying won't be difficult for anyone in the field as the all details of the patent will shortly be published, it will just be illegal under international IP law.

I should disclose I work in the IP industry although I am not a patent attorney.

I particularly like this.As a result, building and maintaining blockchain-based business applications will be simpler and far more scalable than existing technologies.DConE's blockchain application opens up the potential of blockchain technology to a broad set of commercial applications including but not limited to supply chain, banking, healthcare, retail, pharmaceutical, insurance, and government.

They can still commercialise before a patent is issued. I've no doubt it will be a rather complex algorithm so tricky to do the maths to replicate (excuse the pun) anyway. Wand has many other patents pending too but that doesn't stop them progressing.

Very good point, the market expectations are higher so hopefully they mean that.I'm sure their NOMAD and FPR will have advised them so hopefully things looking good. This is not the NPD with Microsoft so an RNS on their new product/s could hit soon too.Good to see another appointment, looks like we'll be filing a fair few patents and lots of NPD to increase the already large addressable market. I like what the ceo said in the pres about not burning cash but for the moment the focus is on reinvesting cash to create a massive company rather than paying dividends yet. Create a monster and then pay them.Annoyed not to get an update but there's a bigger picture.

All that for a pending patent... Will be 18 months or so until grant. Interesting though, If it does what they claim could be extremely valuable.

Rather disappointed with the market commentary section. Not long to wait until we get some numbers though.

IBM closed its Q and reported.. so numbers available imo..

In line with expectations could be a good thing as let’s be honest expectations are high!

I hope that have good advice around wording .. in general however such a comment would have me reaching for analyst expectations... the markets are higher ! But do they know the difference... ?

All of which goes to show , there is no substitute for just reporting your numbers on a timely basis.., ...a lot could hinge now on what the late buys from swedes and Americans do with what could feel like a sucker punch?! There is no doubt that THEIR expectations may be a lot higher th. that press release implies?

I assume they're also waiting for sales figures from IBM possibly for April to June. I would think that's why the trading update is delayed as they're waiting for figures which is the bummer With not having a large internal sales force with more visibility. That's why they moved from quarterly reporting and only FY and HY.
