Big rights issue in Vodafone Idea India to fight a price war against competition that is burning prices backed by the richest man in Asia, VOD to pitch in 2.5B, could have spooked some people. hxxps://www.businessinsider.in/vodafone-idea-plan-to-take-on-mukesh-ambanis-jio-data-excites-stock-market/articleshow/67666494.cms

Doubled up this morning, long term holding and one of two income stocks in my portfolio. As others have said, now below long term moving average. Even if div is trimmed this still represents one of the best defensive plays imo dyor ofc.

Not too fussed...... often there are storms in teacups. Price is slightly below the long term trend (30 year) line and I am content to continue to average up. Has done me alright since Racal days and I added more last week. Holding represents 1.29% portfolio (not including investment property) or 0.47% if property included.

Pre -results jitters with everyone poised to sell with a sniff of bad news imo. Don't think the results will be anything special, I expect flat.

Bear or bull trap? Stock is at over 7 year lows, certainly not good in capital terms if you have been holding over the years, annual div hardly compensates.

TOP NEWS: Vodacom Quarterly Revenue Grows On International Success by Alliance News | 24th January 2019 05:43 Top 40 mobile communications firm Vodacom Group Ltd on Thursday reported growth in third quarter revenue on new customers, despite a difficult South African environment. On a reported basis, group revenue for the three months to December rose 1.5% at ZAR22.98 billion from ZAR22.64 billion the year before. South Africa revenue declined by 1.3% to ZAR17.98 billion from ZAR18.21 billion, however International revenue rose by 13% to ZAR5.32 billion from ZAR4.72 billion year-on-year. South Africa revenue dropped due to the impact of Vodacom's pricing transformation strategy, in order to reduce communication costs. Segmentally, group service revenue grew by 2.4% to ZAR18.85 billion from ZAR18.40 billion the year before, with a 0.9% dip in South Africa but a 13% rise abroad. Vodacom's performance was helped by growth in customers, with grew 7.1% to 79 million. On April 2018, Vodacom adopted the IFRS 15 standard for reporting its results, replacing the IAS 18 standard since. On the IFRS 15 standard, group revenue was down 2.9% to ZAR17.87 billion. "A strong performance in our International operations helped to offset the slowdown in South Africa during the quarter. Growth in revenue and service revenue at a group level increased by 1.5% and 2.4% respectively. Excluding Safaricom, we added 198,000 customers in the three-month period and now serve 79 million across the group, having added a healthy 5.2 million customers to the Vodacom network in the past year," said Chief Executive Shameel Joosub. Vodacom is currently majority owned by FTSE 100 member Vodafone Group PLC. By Dayo Laniyan; dayolaniyan@alliancenews.com

Most analysts don't know what day the bins go out. Looking at the trades and L2 there's lots of sell-side action. Lots of small blocks of 2000-3000 with the occasional 15,000 and 20,000. That looks like at least one big seller to me. Would anyone sell big on the eve of results unless they knew something?

(Bloomberg) -- Vodafone -3%, biggest Stoxx telco faller, after Vodacom posts sales drop in South Africa due to a slowerthan expected economic recovery.* Goldman Sachs analyst Andrew J Lee: "Given the key reason forVodafone share price weakness has been weakening top-line growthin Europe combined with higher gearing, we view the new weaknessin its key AMAP region as an extra obstacle to Vodafone's growthoutlook."* NOTE: Vodafone 3Q results due Friday

I can anticipate the statement. 1. Little to slightly negative growth in mature European markets. 2. Hellish competition in emerging markets. 3. Some progress on cost-cutting. Intention to accelerate it. 4. Jam tomorrow story about reducing debt through sale and leaseback of sites. 5. A lot of tosh about future products and services they can't name yet. 6. Whining about how greedy governments are on spectrum licenses. Dividend to be maintained but reviewed after 6 months. I was sceptical about these four mildly positive news items all coming out yesterday. Now it seems they were designed to puff up the price before today's bad news knocks it back again.

gbh224 Jan '19 - 08:19 - 34550 of 34557 Me too. Only positive is I did not average down every time the low "appeared" to be in as its not a strategy I use making it now a smaller % of my portfolio and less important.

the previous CEO did a big deal then quit. always a bad sign. analysts often had big target prices set for VOD, well north of 250p. now we are being downgraded at under 150p. Verizon announced job cuts yesterday. ...is the smart phone fad and its addictions a passing phase that is going away. Could we get back to normality when communicating? always wondered, telecommunications boom and screen watching could be a temporary historical phase, an industry built in sand.

If the trading statement is bad, does it really matter if it's now or tomorrow. They will go into freefall anyway. Bit of a shock whatever.

I think you are testing the lows of november there needs to be an investigation into this obvious leak with fines and imprisonment to follow. This is the same as robbing a bank
