05/7/2007 15:14 | .........well how did you come by blue brazilian? Thanks scrutable, much appreciated. | lofty
05/7/2007 15:05 | Scrutable - I'm a canny Scot - and what's worse an East coaster. That means we are loathe to part with our hard earned dosh. | blue brazilian
05/7/2007 15:02 | Thanks Scrutable. | busraker1
05/7/2007 14:51 | busraker1 you can't count the revenue from The Secret. I have just learnt that it was heavily discounted as a launch excercise. The films presaged in today's announcement will be sold at mnore than £3/viewing and VDS gets 25%. Think that people are more likely to view on a large screen PC at home, than go to the Cinemna in the rain. Don't forget a further enlargement of the market from those who don't live near a cinema, then add those in wheelchairs who can't move from home. Then again add those who usually rent a video and will be buying large screen PC monitor screens - that will be less aggravating that messing around inside Blockbuster. Unlike Blockbuster, VDS pays no hugh street rent. | scrutable
05/7/2007 14:38 | bluebrazilian do it before I die. That's not sarcastic. I am ancient history already | scrutable
05/7/2007 14:06 | What was the approximate revenue to VDS for each showing of The Secret? can anyone remember? What seems to be lacking is forward visibility of just how much these contracts are worth. | busraker1
05/7/2007 14:01 | The Analyst-thank you for your excellent comments-very encouraging all round. I've been holding happily for several months and I'm a very satisfied lemming! | moormoney
05/7/2007 10:22 | If it's viewable, it's rippable. There is no way (at the moment) to prevent anyone converting any content to DivX (or many other formats) and putting it on file sharing networks. Seeing as Obsession has been available on Windows Media Player (WMV) up to now, its incorrect to state that it's not now available for free. | someuwin
05/7/2007 10:17 | Wcrutable - you are one very switched on guy. I have not YET subscribed to LI but know I will in time. | blue brazilian
05/7/2007 09:52 | someuwin. Not true. You will not get Obsession on the internet for free today - nor any of the 36 new titles from Moviepol, Nor could you have got the live world titles boxing recently from the Phillipins, nor the on board video from the America Cup world yachting; nor the S American football put out by Fox etc etc etc etc etc....... As far as income is concerned - sport, feature films, and minority interest documentaries and films are onlky a part of the market. Corporate intranet comms is huge. So is advertising - particualrly streaming video for future film launches. | scrutable
05/7/2007 09:43 | blue brazilian I put through 20,000 at 90 p and 20,000 CFDs also shown pr-opening at 93p so I have shown that I can be a bit reckless. True judgemnent of my actions will emerge with the clarity of hindsight. I think that there is a lot more coming from Vividas, soon. I learned last week from an answer to a question that the average time for them to land an order is six months. Since that is how long they have had a sales force, we shall probably not see a surge of business appropriate to VDS's techniucal lead before September, but i believe that there is an explosive build up. Today's RNS referred to 30 negotiations in progress. And they have just put their best man out to the Far East where decisions tend to be made far faster than over here. | scrutable
05/7/2007 09:34 | The trouble with all this is that all films (and TV programs) are available to download for free on the internet anyway - in perfect full screen DVD quality. | someuwin
05/7/2007 09:28 | Doesn't show up on my ADVFN trade screen. How accurate is that? | blue brazilian
05/7/2007 09:17 | Yes there is 20,000 at 90p @ 7.59 | accrillia
05/7/2007 09:17 | Blue: It went through at 07.59.22 | spike_1
05/7/2007 09:12 | Scrutable - there seems to be no indication of your buy going through at 90p? | blue brazilian
05/7/2007 08:55 | Getting more and more comfortable with my purchase Fantastic technology Wish I had more funds | saffa100
05/7/2007 08:53 | scrutable, Spot on!! Superior technology and gradual change may well lead to rapid change. I cannot see Vividas being independent for long once big players realise what Vividas are bringing to the table. | witten
05/7/2007 08:49 | Today's RNS discloses that 200,000 viewings of 'The Secret' have taken place. On that particular occasion the price was heavily discounted as a test issue. Now at the full price of say £3/time, £600,000 will be a large chunk of receipts for VDS. The current cap is only £28m. Twenty such films per year would underpin the market valuation - but that number will soon be exceeded by a large multiple. HandMade Films Int will be issuing 30 in the first year and Moviepol 36 (albeit mainly minority art films etc) The world wide reach of films through the internet will bring viewers in much larger numbers than the world has previously entertained through the cinema. Not every viewer lives within reach of one, and what of the say 10% of every population which is immobile and many of whom have never made it to a cinema.. This is a very big business in the making, and I do not regret trebling my holding this morning at the opening of the market at a premium, ie at 90p. Earlier this week the share was at the bottom of its trading range and we told our subscribers so. The top of that same range is 130p The best of today's RNS for me was " The documentary will now be streamed in Vividas format and will replace that which is currently available for $4.95 in Windows Media Player format to give superior quality and reach" At last the pioneering market share of MicroSoft Media Player and Adobe Flash should begin to transfer gradually to the far superior Vividas technology, which the company confidently asserts is two years ahead. | scrutable
05/7/2007 08:42 | It looks as though the big money will come late in the afternoon again. | accrillia
05/7/2007 08:38 | Yup, me as well scruts..bang on the money AGAIN!!! | accrillia
05/7/2007 08:30 | Don't worry Scrutes - I'm a very happy subscriber and VDSis a good example of early investment after your very thorough and detailed research. It's what I signed up for! No worries. | philjeans
05/7/2007 08:27 | analyst I do firmly stick to the self appointed conceit that we are researchers but with a 'but' We began two years ago to research anything which smacked of brilliant management, and marketing, or having paradigm shifting technology. Our coverage of CMR Fuel Calls (*CMF) was the best example. Harvard Business Review named it as one of twenty companies most likely to change the world. However some of our subscribers took that as a suggestion to buy and did so. It was early days and though CMF has kept its technical lead, the whole sector is pre-commercial and CMF continues on its 2-year down drift. I could not possibly buy the shares myself nor let anyone think that they should do so yet. So we have had to cease reporting on the progress of this very significant IP. One day it will be different. Whether we like it or not subscribers in particular but second hand readers more so, always interpret the act of publication as a Tip. We came to realise that we do carry responsibility for inappropriate 'Buys', so now we only write up companies which research suggests are going to do very well. So are we unavoidably a 'Tip sheet'. Furthermore we slways carry simple TA comment which should help intending buyers to time their purchases to advantage, which aggravates the conumdrum. | scrutable |
