Nothing to do with Brexit, everything to do with thishttps://tuoitrenews.vn/news/society/20210204/vietnam-detects-46-local-coronavirus-infections-in-hanoi-four-other-provinces/59162.html?fbclid=IwAR1hRI92KBbFZpubJM_5Td3NLkA2B8o6WsYc8CGKBCPsw5_XswWzuDTR6U465,000 now F1, but more concerning is the geographical diversity.

you must be joking or be reading fake news on some brexit blog . Every day there are stories about how brexit has caused damage and sadly you must live in your own bubble . easy to say you were a remainer but your words betray you. Theresa May was a PRETEND remainer and fooled most people apart from those who knew her history since 2010 and how her worst nightmare was CONTINUED FREE MOVEMENT ( one of the many benefits of being in the EU ! ). It is why she was anti the SINGLE MARKET and hence NEVER a remainer but said she was as it offered best chance at that time of succeeding Came

What Brexit disaster? The borders are operating relatively smoothly and things will improve as companies smoothe out the paperwork. No tariffs. The most complex supply chains, cars, are bullish about the future.
I was a remainer but have changed my mind.
Pound has been strengthening since the start of the year and likely will do further as UK will power ahead as first in Europe to get out of the Pandemic.

started well today but then hit and back to 430 level. weaker pound as brexit disaster becomes apparent a bit more each day . but weaker pound will help VOF those holding VOF .

More good news today.Having previously said they would rely on their own vaccines, Hanoi plans to buy the vaccine for all citizens and it is expected to be delivered over the next six months. Cases in the current outbreak continue to rise, but with lower increases than the first few days, raising hopes it can again be contained, hence the recent bounce. It is not over yet and short term downside risk remains.

I have started to sell my Far East shares since valuations are at very very high levels now as is US. Valuations in US are in bubble territory in my view.I will hold what I have in Vietnam.

but Vietnam indices are recovering after that big dip and seem likely to recover all lost ground soon and especially if US markets hold up

Most emerging markets and other markets for that matter are on very high historic ratings now but Vietnam is reasonably valued in that context and very cheap relatively. Its true the current outbreak of Coronoavirus could cause significant problems in the short run but looking on a 5 to 10 year timescale I don't think there is a better place to be invested in my humble opinion. We may take a short term hit though especially as most of the discount has gone and VOF was on a 20% plus discount not long ago.
DYOR I may be wrong.

Just deciding its time to sell out India today. Had a great run post budget and now overvalued and ahead of itself imo.
Good luck all

exotic.. Just create a monitor with all the London listed Funds you're interested in , and then compare them using the microscope facility.. China & India currently look best IMHO, with VN 3rd (in the Asian region).

Does anyone know a good place to compare emerging markets?

The best I could find so far is this chart

It doesn't really matter about the recent CVirus figures. When buying into VOF you're buying into the long term Vietnam growth story. Covid or not Vietnam is (arguably) the best emerging market in Asia.

as expected, investors not spooked by the mini-outbreak of C19. VN index up almost 4% today as is VOF.

They have recorded the S African variant of C19 now. I am confident with their very strong measures that the current outbreak can be brought under control over the next couple of weeks.

hxxps://vietnamtimes.org.vn/covid-19-vaccines-officially-allowed-to-be-imported-into-vietnam-27841.html

Minister of Health signed a document approving the vaccine

According to the MoH, in this first quarter, the first 50,000 doses of vaccine will arrive in Vietnam. There will be 30 million doses of vaccine to be provided to Vietnam in the first 6 months of this year, instead of until the year-end of original plan.

This is a large amount can be bought by Vietnam, after a time of negotiation while the demand for vaccines is very high in other countries. The Department of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Health will be the focal point in implementing clinical assessment (test injection on volunteers) to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of Covid-19 vaccine AstraZeneca.

Imported vaccine batches made in Italy, UK and Germany will be imported and distributed in Vietnam by Vietnam Vaccine Joint Stock Company (VNVC).

The deal was announced in early Jan. Vn News reported 2 month timing on 30th Jan but given AZ supply problems in Europe I would think that is aspirational.

You can only tell if people have overreacted in hindsight. The market direction is now entirely dependent on the scale of the outbreak.Hydrogen, do you have a link for the vaccination numbers? The last government announcement was 50,000 AZN vaccines arriving next month, but no details beyond that.

Current total 240 cases in the current outbreak. Entertainment venues closing in Hanoi, all schools now closed early in advance of next weeks Tet holiday.
