Agree buyback delay suggests something going on in background Question is are we buying or being bought....

Daneswood you were asking if the price might be higher if the market sensed a bid (or acquisition by VTU).They knew of Hedin's plans for PDG, yet the stock still rose 30 percent on the morning it became official. And given TNAV here of over 70p, it could be more spectacular if a bid materialises.Just looking at the timeline of the company who withdrew their bid in early August (Lithia), the statement mentioned several months of due diligence. If for example they withdrew and started work on VTU, I'd imagine news wouldn't be too far away now.And the buyback is still not started. All very intriguing!

Huge waiting lists can presumably be cancelled.

Huge waiting lists though and several months wait, as other posters have explained, show that this market will run and run.

3k for a car, rust bucket central :).

Interesting view sunshine. Only speaking on my behalf, I'm 40, mortgage, young family...I would love a new car but there is no way that'll be happening over next 12-24 months. Probably not even a newer used car. No position.

I don’t short stocks, and this may be a very well run company.

However near free credit is over, full employment will end within 6 months , and real pain for millions will be upon us all.

No one needs a new car, or for that matter, a car valued over £3K.

Just hand the keys back, and walk away.

Exactly what the industry is facing.

From Q1? From last year's second quarter? (historic data fully factored in).

From 27 years ago?

You see you really need to learn to use data in context.

And no answer. Of course you could be shorting, or trying to scare people into selling so you can buy cheaper, or maybe it's the goodness of your heart.... (Nah nobody's stupid enough to believe the last one :) )

Or most likely a common advfn troll.

Another little know killer blow over the next two years.

You can arrange voluntary termination once you have paid at least 50% of the total amount payable under the contract. This amount will be clearly stated within your agreement. It includes interest and any admin fees charged by the finance company. You are also liable for any damage or mileage fees incurred.

What am i missing, is there an American company this poster is confusing with VTU?

Using US data repeatedly to knock (any) UK company is desperate - at best.

Clueless. Probably work for a VTU rival, or sacked by VTU, or similar....

From America today.

For the week ended Sept. 28, 2022, a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage was 6.70 percent, which is more than double what it was a year ago, at 3.01 percent.'

Actually you finance the full amount it's just the payment pattern that changes . Instead of 36 equal payments resulting in you owning the car there are 35 lower payments and one large one if you want to own it but you can also hand the car back without paying this last payment or choose to refinance this last payment .Over the last few years very high percentages of buyers use this method so I don't see many more going this way as most of the ones that don't believe in cash only

On Friday, American Express - which traditionally targets the upper classes of US society - tumbled the most in four months after the credit card processing giant set aside much more for bad loans than analysts expected, suggesting the fastest ever surge in interest rates is adversely impacting customers’ ability to pay their bills

Delay due to the supply problem, so second hand cars will still be in demand at current prices, so VTU profits could still be solid, the share price should still be solid too. On a radio program they did say that demand for second hand cars is still quite high and could remain high with the supply problem with second hand cars for some time to come yet, even with the current economic problems that some people are encountering. I expect VTU to beat current profits forecasts. .

We ordered a new car end of August. Was told it would probably be January/February when we would get it. We were told on Friday we're now looking at April to May.

Who bought the 1 million shares on one day in 50k lots last week. Someone mast have faith.
The is still a high demand for second hand cars due to the supply with new cars & problem with chips. This situation cud take several months to change. In the meantime sales & prices cud hold up.

What a load of #### - more likely to encourage PCP as you are financing a smaller amount than traditional HP. For most people the car is a necessity and not something that can be ditched on a whim!

I added this week which is not something I’ve been doing with my other holdings. As discussed, financially as good as it gets even in an economic downturn with its existing assets. The chance of a takeout is realistic but not something I’ve invested for.

There was no Rns on the 1 million shares bought in 50k lots - not even 1 post on the BB.

2 veiws - Is VTU a sell or is someone building up a stake on the cheap, & should we join the gravy train & buy more before a bid comes in?

Surely the price would be perkier if there was something afoot, seems to be good two way at these levels. However the absence of buyback activity is a bit puzzling so maybe something in it

Microscope - agree - there was a million bought in 50k lots a couple of days ago. Today 80% buys.
The share price cud break out, with the latest buy swing. The MM cant hold the price down for ever if the buy swing continues

Little doubt in my mind, watching several of the auctions over the last couple of weeks or so, that someone is accumulating a serious amount of stock here, or the traders on behalf of someone.

Almost every day they open the offer at 42.95, but it's the bid which starts around 40p. Then the bid rises in increments of.1 or .05 every few seconds in auctions, and as soon as they find a seller they mark that as the price, so it appears to be lower, but that's not the reality, if you follow me.

And every afternoon they have to go higher on the bid to find any more sellers, while the offer rarely moves or in amounts of a full penny.

To put it simply, they're constantly looking for stock, while discouraging buyers. (Also, signs of failed shorting attacks at 40p many days).

Obviously these are just my observations, but it looks as clear as day to me.

Prospect of a bid looks likelier and likelier. Particularly as they haven't started the buyback, strongly indicative that something corporate is happening.

All imho.
