17/12/2017 11:14 | CS Spread bet tax free is based on being able to bet either way. The part that needs correcting is the gearing. You can't walk into a betting shop with your last tenner and place a £250 bet. Complete madness and it destroys the lives of the gambling addicts. | superg1

17/12/2017 09:53 | jh - in which case people shouldn't buy shares in them? It's nothing to do with whether a company is a fraud or not IMO, it's a general principle - you shoudn't be able to sell what you don't own. | club sandwich

17/12/2017 09:26 | conductive inks are going to be massive.near term. I wonder if we could sell that part off and run with the rest..? | jointer13
17/12/2017 09:24 | CS is an Idiot. It's no different to being a Buy To Let landlord. You don't own the Property it is owned by the Mortgage Company (they will hold the deeds) yet you extract rent from your tenant to service the debt. People who are shorting stock simply borrow from existing holders who allow their stock to be lent for a fee. They then cover that short at some point to allow them to pay back the ultimate owner. I have no problem with shorting in principle. Takes two sides to make a market. What people should have problem with (but it is their choice whether they do or not) is 1. Naked shorting (not having borrow on a stock before shorting it) 2. Shorting companies which are trying to find cures for cancer etc (You are actively damaging their equity value which will in turn impact their Cost of Capital and ability to fund their growth) | the stigologist
17/12/2017 09:23 | Parsons4 one of TW major investments is in a company called Optibiotix. As with VRS this company is all about future earnings and for-seeing massive growth. In fact TW could hardly call VRS overvalued on current earnings because he would have to call OPTI the same. Opti are currently valued around 60M - 65p so not far short of VRS, in fact they are more or less at the same growth stage just in different sectors. TW has been calling OPTI up to 100p plus for months. If TW actually researched VRS he would probably invest as he has with OPTI. PS i am a holder of OPTI stock. | john henry
17/12/2017 09:23 | just a taste of what conductive inks can be used for. " Electricity flows from the batteries to the bulb through the printed pattern, eliminating the need for wire circuitry and making the flashlight less expensive to manufacture than something you’d pick up at Best Buy." | jointer13
17/12/2017 09:13 | Hopefully there will be another RNS this week and we'll we'll be able to hear the sound of Lucien burning... It is - and has always been - my view that shorting should be made illegal. In what other walk of life can you sell something you don't actually own? | club sandwich
17/12/2017 09:06 | TW has commented on Lucian Myers short. He says he spoke to NR and got asked him to comment on LMs short. The answer he gave was that he (NR) was well aware of the companies future and the figures would speak for themselves. LM was entitled to his own take on where the company was going !!! TW said that was a good answer and so do I. All the dodgy AIM companies would be issuing WRITS by now. On the whole all positive for VRS. | parsons4
16/12/2017 21:57 | max, the main I posted the Unilever link was this bit, 'At the time, it said the firm would step up its cost-cutting, aiming for a 20% margin by 2020.' VRS can play their part as each segment of Unilever will have been given their target and Nanene opens up possibilities. Strange one I know but Englands Glory matches had glasspaper on both striking sides of the box, reduced costs by putting it on one side only, then over the years reduced the size of the box etc; and now at the point that they may have overdone it with nowhere to go. That is where a lot of companies will be with their cost cutting so Nanene may be a breath of fresh air and a lifeline for those that will be pressured to come up with the cost cutting without compromising quality. There is always the danger with cost cutting that you rely on it to increase margin, 20% is a big number! However, you could look at buying fledglings with a lot of mileage in them particularly if they vertically integrate into the business and add to the bottom line. So, it's not an obvious one for Unilever but one way or another they will reduce costs. | luckyorange

16/12/2017 18:29 | Just looking through Friday's trades and it's nice to see some high value holdings changing hands. However I see there are still a fair number of sub 500 share deals. That flaberghasts me now we are out of the penny stock range where a penny or two is a big movement. At Friday's prices considering the 5% spread and dealing costs there would have to be a 15% rise before a buyer is in the money | redchef

16/12/2017 16:31 | Max The CEO was very clear in his comment that the Unil deal is far bigger than investors realise. That deal fully explains how the CEO sudeenly becamed very informed on smart packaging and the biggest issues for such companies re food is cooked chicken. | superg1 |
