IQE, under more attack, has responded with the same defence.
Looking like an easy target.

Once again we fall behind the Dow, and other indices - watch as they recover
And compare our indices
We are now back to sept 17 level
Dow has hardly been affected
The Dow coughs, we catch a cold is an understatement
advice to your friend should have been to invest in US mkt

I sold a load more today so am circa 45% cash
This is just the start
Whether I reinvest in the uk mkt is another matter

VCT in 2015 was due to a US factory opening up in competition because of some patent expiry opportunities.
Classic example of tintins not understanding technology. Great buying opportunity.

The stalwarts (buy and forget that I cobbled together was:
Stalwarts (RSW/SPX/GHH/HILS/ABC/HLMA/VCT/DPH/CRDA/HCM/DPLM)
CKN is possibly another.
I didn't get much feedback so didn't put too much effort into it.
I have been 'advising' a pal about the same approach and he bought
HLMA
DPH
SPX
on the recent weakness.
I'd be most interested in what you put together.

That is a far more sensible appraisal.
It does not always follow however, that the order will be filled, as it takes a willing buyer and a willing seller to agree the price before a deal can take place.
If it is not filled then surely it has to be withdrawn, or left on the book as an uncompleted order, so that trading can carry on if it is a middle of the day situation. At the end of the day, the market closes at a certain point and UT's logged.
On a number of occasions, my firm orders have lapsed, sometimes at or within the UT price. I would not normally leave an open order overnight, as it is far too risky.

Although prices were being quoted during the recent dip, more than one of us failed to deal at the 'apparent' price. The stock did not go to auction.
For 15 minutes I tried to buy PTSG at the screen price. The stock didn't go to auction, but there were no takers on the buy side, whilst trades were occurring on the sell side. Same with Dlar.

Price monitoring extension just means a stock has gone into an extended auction.

You have a normal auction ( usually where price is 10% different to opening price or last auction price ) and then after 5 minutes if the price has not corrected and uncrossed because it is still more than I think 10% away from when it went into auction - then the auction is extended for a further five minutes. You can have a second one as well - for another 5 minutes if price still not corrected.

The reason why the RNS extension is sent out is so that punters can receive notice and then be alerted to the auction and go and participate to resolve the price and hopefully mop up the trade on the book that is causing the issue. Usually there will be a big market order trade on one side and nothing buying so the idea is to send out the extension and then the spivs will turn up to try and take up some of the stock at a sensible price.

Thanks red, It's something to do with when the share price becomes volatile and the liquidity is affected I think
It happened today with IQE as another damning report was unleashed

Not sure that this is a complete answer:

An auction market is a market in which buyers enter competitive bids, and sellers enter competitive offers at the same time. The price at which a stock is traded represents the highest price that a buyer is willing to pay and the lowest price that a seller is willing to sell.

That bit I understand.

When the result appears to be a price that breaches predetermined tolerance limits, they extend the time frame to delete, or allow, further order entries before the auction closes.

Does that mean they weed out orders that would skew the price to an unrealistic or unrepresentative level perhaps, when compared to the trading pattern close to the close of the market.

Trading systems, although 'computerised' were vastly different in the 1980's. Much less sophisticated. Dealers executed orders, passed to them by brokers, on behalf of clients.

I could see a scenario where 'ghost' orders are left on the book, where there is no intention to trade.

Maybe..

Anyone understand this:

Price Monitoring Extension

The auction call period has been extended in this security by 5 minutes.

Auction call extensions give London Stock Exchange electronic order book users a further opportunity to review the prices and sizes of orders entered in an individual security's auction call before the execution occurs. A price monitoring extension is activated when the matching process would have otherwise resulted in an execution price that is a pre-determined percentage above or below the price of the most recent automated execution today.

Agree very good figures on VCT Apad....though what happened in 2015?
Acquistion or something?

Anyway the record date for the dividend has just passed very recently,so I personally wouldn't be buying at this time.

Again the markets are looking precarious currently and stocks are mostly over valued so perhaps one to get into if it drops back substantially.

Ta.

Beddard isn't the only one to make a mistake on Soli.
I bought a few, to get to the AGM, when they were working
on the tagging contract for the MoJ.
The £1m contract with Rsw alerted initial interest, but I am
not sure if there is any ongoing business there.
I wasn't convinced by what I saw and sold at a loss
when that contract was terminated.
Answers to some of my questions sent shivers down my spine.
They do have a couple of capable execs, but serial buyers
of businesses. You cannot get a handle on the fundamentals
when they continually shuffle the pack.
Well off my radar!!

Beddard is the soundest. His ISA's for 2017 are up 13%.
Solid companies - one mistake SOLI :-)
His analyses are very well argued, detailed and he visits the companies.
Also doesn't do too many companies.
Here's his analysis of Vicrex

See what you think, hazl. rns due tomorrow.

BOO is remarkably lacking in volatility. Given up trying to understand it!

A tipster is giving an opinion. Is he/she aiming just to push or ramp shares? Maybe.
It is always worth a look at the underlying analysis, there could be something
that you have missed, or the perspective offered provides food for further thought.
Conversely, it can cloud your judgement.
That is where personal discipline comes in.
