Is BOO a BTFD opportunity?

LOL red! That was a good one ;-)

Watching for that correction too Pete! Mind you I may well be waiting in another year's time! We just feel something needs to give but others wiser than me do not seem too worried.

EDIT - Apad: Apparently QTX lost a contract to TRAK recently so perhaps TRAK aren't as bad as believed. Seems that their next event has lined up three users (companies with contracts) to promote their product/services too. I know you are not a fan of them but if true can't be THAT bad surely. Not a holder or intending to be a holder. Just an observation relating to previous discussions.

Advice for an old guy...

I was working out at the gym when I spotted a sweet young thing walking in...

I asked the trainer standing next to me, "What machine should I use to impress that lady over there.

The trainer looked me over and said; "I would recommend the ATM in the lobby."

Glad you survived the trip to the mainland A. Risky! Back safe on the island again. Congrats on your +60%, A. My pf has also made staggering progress in the last 18mths. Mrs P also thinks I'm a genius (for a change).
Seriously though, without painting any picture of gloom, this cannot go on forever, there has to be a downturn or correction at some point. When it comes, will we recognize it in time before it destroys our progress? And assuming we think we do see it coming, what should we do about it?
I don't want to lose the the generous gains but neither do I like to be out of the market. Much easier making decisions in a steady or rising market than a falling one. Maybe not a problem for today, but still it is one that now occupies my thoughts occasionally.
Frankly, like before, I doubt I will know when it is about to get really real and even then I will probably sit there hoping for a bounce whilst it continues down.
Anyone got a plan?

I doubt whether the shorters know anything, Big. Covering themselves or betting on a company that was going nowhere special until the beginning of 2017 being overbought.

The article had no information or data, so had no value.

The question I would keep asking about IQE, if I owned it, would be how protectable is their technology from competition. For example have they built up skills and techniques over the years that gives their customers enormous confidence in the quality of their wafers?

If some of the areas, other than phones, the CEO is talking about do take off (I'm not convinced, but it is possible) then there will be competition.

I don't buy the argument about the size of their wafers.

It would be terrific if they do become world beaters - however, our pillock politicians would probably let them be bought out, like ARM.

From the Shareprophets website (below). This is the exact opposite of my approach. I can't bear to invest in something I can't write a concise paragraph about why it has an advantage.

I sold BQE a while back, Big. I must revisit that decision to see if I have something to learn.

apad

"However, my own holding is rather large. It takes up too large a percentage of my overall portfolio to be able to sleep well at nights.

But I’m not going to sell any shares, because the outlook for a higher share price for IQE seems good. City slickers have estimated that sales will be over £140 million for this year - up 63% in five years. Which doesn’t seem that marvellous. But the story may only just be starting.

The question has been asked: is IQE a millionaire-making stock? That seems over the top. But that kind of share does exist. Think of Google or Asos (ASC)

And yet, And yet. IQE’s recent performance has all the hallmarks of a gold rush. And not all gold rushes come off.

As a a techno ignoramus, I have struggled over the years to get a handle on what it is, exactly, that the Cardiff-based techno wizard does. I think I may be a bit clearer now.

IQE dreams up and makes advanced semiconductor wafers. Said wafers are tiny thingies, polished up like a mirror. They are a big part of the set-up within silicon chips.

Any the wiser? Not much, I fancy. But be assured they are one of the most important things you can make in the modern communications and media world."

I like Beddard a lot, because he does the research and presents the evidence before his opinion.
Also he speaks to his record both good and bad.
Doesn't mean I always agree him and I know absolutely nothing about screens, mrx9000.
His GAW comment is a hoot. Thanks Lauders I had missed it.
Like him I couldn't buy into the GAW story. It all looked daft to me.
Hey ho wrong again :-)

Beddard's ISA choices for 2017 are up 8.5% cf 2.5% for the FTSE and look pretty safe to me. Only Howden is slightly down.

My portfolio is up 60% YTD, but it is not safe.
Very exciting though :-)

ABC FY on the 11th Sept. is my next key milestone.
10.5% of Stairway.

I suppose his writings are more journalistic but he seems to know how to crunch numbers too. Not being good at either I suppose I may be well off track.

Interesting that GSK are back down to the 1500p area. Will they go down as low as 1400p which seems like the next support level?

I don't rate Beddard at all, previously I looked into all of the screeners he has done and tested them, I also looked into the various spreadsheets he has done etc, such as the decision engine. He has over complicated things somewhat and has been rather arrogant on some previous emails when I asked him a few questions on a few of his screens. He is more of a journalist than an investor, imho, from experience both don't mix.

Quite like this co's story, but balance sheet looks pretty weak. Might need a placing within 12 months by the looks of it (unless they take on more debt - likely convertible), so would rather wait. Could explain why there is a bit of price weakness here

An opinion on GAW by Richard Beddard. I do like the way he writes:

Remove the two periods before and after the centre "i" to make the link work.

My prediction is for an underwhelming set of results.
It will be interesting to see if they continue to maintain the dividend, or if we see a cut.

I wonder if GDWN will continue declining or recover on the next RNS. Will be very interesting. Expected anytime now according to the company specific BB. Today in fact according to one poster but as nothing has come it is a bit of a concern. Not a holder, just watching but from 4100p in 2014 to 1500p now is quite a decline.
