AGM this week, should hopefully be an update statement.

Deals still taking far too long IMO given placing before Xmas 2020 and statements then.

Thanks as ever Riv, you dig up a piece of info which reassures us punters! Much appreciated. As someone who has been in the M&A world and in PLC world, I was beginning to wonder wtf VLF were up to, intimating they were so close to landing deals on the placing, yet 4-5 months later nada......so that helps!

Have a good day
Cheers

Positive commentary from Downing Strategic Micro-Cap this morning - looks like VLG have become a magnet for potential acquisitions, which explains why they've had to take the time to evaluate an increased list of possibilities:

"Venture Life Group PLC (Venture Life) (4.59% of net assets)
Cost: £1.96m. Value as at 28 February 2021, £1.95m

Background
Venture Life is a leader in developing, manufacturing and commercialising products for the self‐care market, which we have followed for some time through our ownership in other funds. We think the business has reached an interesting juncture with significant growth prospects.

Update to the investment case

Significant growth in revenues across the business
Step-change in profitability due to operational gearing
Exclusive long-term distribution agreement in China
Equity raise to fund acquisitions
Capital allocation optionality

Progress against investment case

Our investment case centred on increasing own-brand product diversification, utilising latent capacity within the manufacturing base which in turn should unlock significant operational gearing. Progression against this was most noticeable in the full year results, in which a 49% increase in revenue resulted in a 162% increase in profit after tax. Despite these impressive results, we believe that this is the beginning of the group’s journey.

The company raised £36 million of equity in December 2020 to accelerate the progression to infilling underutilised manufacturing capacity. There haven’t been any updates on potential acquisitions since then, which has halted momentum that was building in the investment story. However, it is believed the raise resulted in incremental inbound interest which could be creating a delay in outlining the optimal capital allocation.

We believe that once the proceeds are deployed, this will manifest into impressive returns on capital invested as the business scales to utilise excess capacity and can recycle capital into further growth on a self-funded basis."

FB,
I often think I churn shares too much.
I'm willing to hold for a hopefully good longer story.
Time will tell..

What's it been - 6months post find raise. From the fundraising RNS you were led to believe quality deals were around the corner. There is patience and there is thinking you have been had...

Patience, I'd rather have a reasonable deal that takes longer, than a bad deal.

Seems it was just a ruse to get punters to take part in the placing. Pretty poor really. If you go and read that original RNS when they raised money you'd think several would have been bagged by now

From the Times - this appears to be a second study which has found the benefit of using mouthwash in reducing the risk of catching COVID-19:

"Scientists believe the risk of catching and spreading coronavirus can be slashed by mouthwash after laboratory tests. The study, conducted by York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Public Health England, has been published in the Journal of General Virology. Researchers will use the best-performing mouthwashes in a controlled clinical trial."

I think you need to rinse daily to keep the bacterial load down. Don’t swallow to maintain the good gut bacteria.
Bacteria found in the brains of alzheimer patients strongly correlate with bacteria found in the mouth. These bacteria are also present in the blood of Alzheimer’s patients and those with advanced gum disease. The hypothesis is that the bacteria enter the blood stream via damaged gums.
Keep taking the mouthwash.

Hpcg, I'm now a convert to mouthwash. I only started using it last year, and I have to say that it worked really well whenever I felt an infection or a little tooth pain. I gather you shouldn't use it all the time as this would get rid of "good" bacteria, but two or three days a week is presumably fine.

Rivaldo - I gargle with a mouth wash when I have an infection. As per the article the idea is to disable as much virus as possible before it can get into a cell. Poor mouth hygiene is associated with brain diseases too - its a root into the body for infection.

I have updated my valuation model for the final results. Now getting 111.7p. Still plenty to go for here, in my opinion.

The annual report reads well, especially the risk section. I think buying in (as I just have) below the placing price limits downside. Bottom of the retrace at 80p or so looks well in.
