I do find the share price drop puzzling. Am I missing something. Risk of offer not materialising ?

Unless the following appliesVED pays me my dividend as per the ex div date (ie 19 Jul).Volcano then ALSO pay me £8.25 PLUS the dividend again 31p to buy the shares off me after end Jul ?That's too good to be true ?

I understand that whoever holds shares on 19 Jul ex div date gets the dividend. Not sure how exactly that ties in with the offer of 8.25 plus dividend ?

Be interesting to see how a merger with AA Africa plays out ,they would have to buy out remaining shares, give AA more than 50% of VED to get more than 50% of AA Africa effectively loosing control of VED, no cash alternatives were discussed, unless they give up shares in AA.

If the deal goes ahead then the shares are effectively worth 8.55... the concern here is if it does go ahead. Ive added on basis that it will..

Someone please tell me if I am off the mark here, share price usually drops on ex-div days based on the price per share being offered, therefore, with a 30p divi this Thurs and an offer on the table @825, am I right in thinking that this share price will either not drop by 30p or if it does it should recover pretty quickly given the offer on the table, either way is it not free money?

I guess the weakness is related to commodities (especially metals) and China and the small risk Agarwhal pulls the deal. He’s a notoriously tricky character so anything is possible with him.

Anyways assuming the deal close in two months the annualised return on buying today is nearly 40% so attractive for sure. The problem for the arbs is that there is nothing to hedge against.

Mining majors Vedanta Limited and Anglo American Plc could together mine coal in India. The firms might table joint bids at the next round of auctions, according to a media report.

Talking about his company's inoperative copper smelter in Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu, Agarwal said that those who have been hit by the shutdown will unite and that "they will do whatever they need to in approaching the government..."

Last week, the Mint reported that Volcan Investments Ltd, the trust controlled by Agarwal, was mulling to acquire control of Anglo American’s South African business. The report claimed that the merger will create an entity worth about $7 billion.

Linton, I've already got real shares holding out till the end. May well get a CFD on weakness but l banked £6.1K on recent CFD trades so don't want to be too greedy. Going to make enough on the real shares.
