Picked up a few more. Couldn't buy online with TDW. Good punt at this price. Might not be another bid but can't see much risk of downside at this price.

Cheers Netsdeal. You could be right seagreen. Its just that I feel nolding UMN for the next few weeks is a risk free gamble in the hope another bidder will emerge, however slight the hope.

Hope you feel a lot better this morning, papillon.

Good news to teh u sector is that oil is challenging $70 again and Areva has just jumped up more than 20 Euros - finally breaks through 800! This record high coupled with Cameco also trading at record highs, plus ERA and PDN recovering strongly in Australia, could help support the sector.

happy investing...

My apologies Netsdeal. As soon as I went to bed I realised I had got it wrong. Simple arithmetic as well. Too much red wine? I'm getting old and senile!! Getting as stupid as G W Bush. All my brain cells are disappearing. Apologies also for the "trading" slur.

well, pap, you'd want a strong USD! where did your maths go?! You said it before, you wanted $1.8 to the pound! It's the treasuries today, gone up almost a buck, hence lower interest rates and the dollar... perhaps higher gold and also uranium prices soon to resume...?

many u stocks in Australia and Canada have been falling for 2 months now, until the last couple of days. so if you must want an explanation, perhaps big boys might be switching out of UMN to say FSY, PDN etc (CMK, BRD etc that I favoured are small and institutions will have to be stealth on them or to get them on private placing/warrants as they always do).

there are still MMs in Canada, except that they are like our SETSMM, acting on the order book. With an order book, difficult really to say for sure whether trading at the high side is a buy or a sell - it's an eager buy, but can also be a bigger sell.

tomorrow UMN might just turn up - trust London! or a counter-bid may just turn up - you never know... nonetheless, I believe 392(bid)+8(your estimate on Niger U) = 400p is the floor, unless the dollar crashes.

hey, pap, I prefer investing to trading! I said not long ago I've learnt too many lessons and am now trying to learn to hold forever, or until the end of the journey...

Why did the price go down then SAGEM if there were twice as many buys as sells? Don't blame the MM's either since they don't have them in Canada!! There must be a reason for the fall if your statistics are right (are they correct?). Could there be a large block of shares up for sale? Perhaps Netsdeal can explain as he trades in Canadian stocks?

Finished at C$8.43 in Canada. Gives £3.99. Bid US$7.75. Gives £3.90 in UK and C$8.23 in Canada. US$ seems to be strengthening against £. Not what we want!! We want it to weaken!! Do something stupid Bush to weaken your currency. We know you are capable of stupidity.
Calling all other potential bidders; get your fingers out and start bidding!!

ah, papillon, good luck with your holding. you never know - anything can happen. keep faith... at least a CONCRETE floor is set at around 392+8, the advantage of a cash offer!

What I'm wishing for is for the US$ to strengthen over the next few weeks to 1.80 to the £ so the US$7.75 bid becomes worth £4.30 even without a further bid!! Dream on!

Netsdeal,

I agree. With this volume we really want to see the bulls win on KMR, otherwise it won't look very good.

hi, papillon, indeed CHL has been very exciting! that's what often happens to a sleeper miner! i've experienced this a few times now (so having mentioned CMK and BRD etc).

re KMR, i had it too for quite some time until taking profit at 50p last year. may consider getting back in again at some point - the chart at the moment looks to "make or break"... (i.e., please don't shoot me, GSands, i think it could come back to re-test 48 in the next couple of months, if it doesn't decisively break out 62 this week)

Hi Netsdeal, re CHL, I didn't know of them until I saw their meteoric rise on friday. Now they have come back to 46p they look very interesting. That 30 year contract and their possibly enormous coal reserves make CHL very good value at a Mkt Cap of just over £20 million. Also chart looks very good. Just bought some in fact!! I will hold my UMN for another few weeks in anticipation of a rival bidder surfacing.

Papillion,

Thanks for the feedback.

Like VML, it could turn out to be quite a timely entry point for KMR as the stock appears to be making a breakout today on significant volume. We *could* see the stock make another quick run.

Interesting post GSands. KMR Mkt Cap over £400 million due to their large African Titanium dioxide mines. I have held these shares in the past, but until you mentioned it and I checked up, I had no idea they were exploring for uranium in Mozambique. Similar type deposits to those of UMN in S.Africa and URA in Tanzania. Chart looks very interesting. I will take a closer look. Many thanks.

Netsdeal,

I sold SMM some time ago and was thinking about getting back in. I have decided against it because of Paladin's interest. One Aussie uranium miner I do hold is UNX which is bouncing off recent lows while many of the others are in decline. I also have MOX which could become very interesting in time.

In Canada I like the look of BRD too and have also looked at BAY and PEX amongst many others. There are so many to choose from and I have large watchlist on the TSX website!

Pap,

Thanks for your post. I hope they will list the new company in Canada as well!

not being allowed to mine is a pretty big political risk!

It is amazing how often people (not you necessarily netsdeal) assume that the West poses no political risk to business; ordinary run-of-the-mill businesses perhaps, but not resource projects. I'd much rather start up a mine in Mexico or Peru or many places in Africa (not all obviously) than in most of Europe or much of the USA. There are exceptions of course: Canada, Nevada, Australia (except for uranium mining in Qld or WA...).

simonbroughton, your post 2332 re: SMM

yes, it now does look that today SMM has re-affirmed a bottom (and the entire u sector does appear to be resuming their uptrend again - so perhaps no better time than now to get back in them again).

if you use UMN as a yardstick, then SMM is significantly undervalued (wrt assets) and has almost no geo-political risks! However, the big question is: when (not IF, IMO) can they be allowed to mine? So all depends on your investment strategy and style - how long you wish to hold it for...

for a short term gain (even double), i'd still favour TSX:BRD and TSE:CMK though.

good investing or trading...

PS. just saw a trade of 1,750,000 UMN shares @ 399.33 at 8:56!

TAKEN FROM URANIUM STOCKS.NET

We made a few calls this morning to our contacts in London as UraMin is also traded
on the London Stock Exchange.

We thought that Uranium One who also have interests in Africa might be interested as gaining control of UraMin Incorporated might offer 'economies of scale' and all the other usual benefits that predators trot out when they are in hunting mode. But alas we have nothing to report only the usual uncorroborated rumblings that emanate from the office coffee machines. At a guess we would have put Rio Tinto as favourites to challenge if not out bid Areva. However, you have to hand it to the French they are displaying more vision than the others by making this move to secure uranium for their future needs.

The question now is: Should we cash in and go or stick around to see what develops? Being of a curious nature will we stick around, as we are by no means certain that it is all over just yet?

Scanning the list of uranium stocks it was nice to see most of them dabbled in green for a pleasant change. We also noted that that Ur-Energy (TSE:URE) was up 8.26% and wondered whether it was up on merit or because it sounds like UraMin and someone has hit the wrong button! If it falls back today someone, somewhere has just lost his Christmas bonus.

Have a good one!

good spot/reasoning on UMN 2, pap! that alone adds some 8p to Areva's offer. good to see PCEI and its big brother CCO are both trading near record highs.

yep, re CMK, you're lightening fast! you may have also noticed Churchill Mining (LSE:CHL)'s phenomenal rise of 86% yesterday, just because of a coal contract! Already 6x since April! although what's better it CoalBed Methane:

Closed equivalent to 406p in Canada. Could weeks before we get another bid, if at all. Or it could be a matter of days!! I shall keep a close eye on the US$/£ exchange rate over the coming weeks.
