26/6/2007 11:11 | Sorry folks O/T Paddy - interesting rumour, was looking at it last night, there isnt a definitive link, its all around the China/Russian discussions going on at the moment. Am still watching though!! My preference is KAH (which I'm in now, have moved out of UMN) regards gep | gepetto100

26/6/2007 09:14 | I've been in and out of this stock a couple of times now. Anyone interested in mining stocks should also have a look at Cambridge Mines(CMR) at the moment. Announced good news yesterday but the really interesting news today concerns a strong rumour(not denied by management) that they have discovered uranium on a mine in Bulgaria! If so it will rocket!! | paddywak1967
25/6/2007 18:58 | Hi Martin and Netsdeal. I'm beginning to wonder if continuing to hold UMN is a mistake since another bid seems more and more unlikely. Waiting for the cash and "free" shares in Niger spin off could mean months of holding and having money tied up. Plus the dollar continues to weaken further eroding the cash value of bid. Did have one bit of good news today. Bought some CHL last week at around 45p as a gamble. Up 25% today!! And I had never heard of them until their dramatic rise of 15/6/07! Long Live King Coal!! | papillon
25/6/2007 10:26 | ah, that might explain it, papillon. PS. o/t, good to see KAH starts to move. if it breaks out 25 today, it could signal a sustained move upwards... fingers crossed. | netsdeal
25/6/2007 09:59 | The Sunday Mail advised its readers to sell UMN. Evidently they had tipped it some time ago as part of their investment portfolio. Probably accounts for the dip this morning. However one would have to say the Market appears to be giving no credence to a rival bid. | papillon
23/6/2007 23:43 | o/t well done, Martin! good move indeed. once a friend said, trading an index is hard; it'll kill you if you don't set a stop; it'll kill you if you do... if the Far East holds or bounces back when we open, then we may have a chance to bounce back above the last low at around 6490, otherwise... whatever, it looks pretty certain that Europe will gap down on Monday. it looks DAX is a lot stronger; don't know if it'd fall harder... hopefully, these shouldn't drag down uranium stocks too much now - energies seem to lead nowadays. perhaps the Dow theory in the modern era? | netsdeal
23/6/2007 19:33 | Thanks papillon. | brad44
23/6/2007 17:57 | Entirely O/T! Hi chaps, I've just posted a chart on KAH...I see you're already there pp! Netsdeal, I closed my FTSE long, at a loss, just seconds before doing the school run on Friday. I don't like holding over weekends especially when I don't have the luxury of being in the money. Good move judging by the futures and the US close. I may go short on Monday with our 6450 target in mind...if that's breached things could get torrid; but I'm still pretty bullish until that happens! Cheers, Martin | marnewton
23/6/2007 13:07 | Brad, regular posters on this bb, marnewton and Netsdeal (and me!) are already in KAH. Netsdeal and marnewton have posted recently on KAH on this bb. Read what they say. As regards Galahad, since they have around 20 million shares in UMN they will receive shares in the Niger spin off as a special dividend (if its allowed by regulators). So if Areva complete the takeover of UMN, GLA will effectively be a cash shell with 2 smallish investments in Quadra and the "Niger" spin off. GLA intend to return some of the cash to shareholders and invest some in soft commodities. Hi seagreen, be interested to hear what your friend says. SAGEM, that has been posted before on this bb and other UMN bb's. | papillon
23/6/2007 11:48 | any of you guys dipped into KAH? looks like an interesting play. Very happy with my investment here, looking forward to more info on niger. seagreen, if one holds galahad as well, will there be any benefit from niger? regs b | brad44
23/6/2007 10:19 | John Mayer has consistantly called stocks wrong he valued epd at £4.44 and I for one lost a fortune on that little gem in the early days.........dont hold your breath for him...... Pap if you get the shares that would be cool if you get cash you would not get the upside on the float of niger will phone a friend and see if he knows | seagreen
23/6/2007 09:18 | Sagem, Thanks. On technicalities --- How many days must elapse before this present solo offer will be made final? Are shareholders' approval necessary before finalization? | ppowerscourt
23/6/2007 06:37 | ANYBODY READ THIS :- Areva's $2.5bn offer for UraMin may spark global bidding war June 18, 2007 By Stewart Bailey Johannesburg - Areva had offered to pay $2.5 billion (R18 billion) in cash for UraMin, to gain uranium mining assets as global demand for the nuclear fuel rebounds. The world's largest maker of nuclear plants had agreed to pay $7.75 a share, UraMin said on Friday. That is 4.6 percent more than UraMin's closing price in the US on Friday and 7.6 percent more than last Monday, the day before UraMin first said it was in talks. The acquisition will give French state-owned Areva exploration projects in Namibia, South Africa and the Central African Republic that have yet to start production. "This is essentially the French government buying major uranium deposits in Africa to ensure its supply of a strategic resource," said Kevin Bambrough, a strategist at Sprott Asset Management in Toronto, UraMin's second-largest shareholder. "This is extremely bullish for the uranium sector." "Shareholders are going to hold out for a higher offer," said John Meyer, a mining analyst at Numis Securities in London. "It's a company with assets on the way to development. This could be attractive for other bidders." Possible rival bidders included BHP Billiton, Anglo American and Rio Tinto, and Uranium One, which was developing South Africa's largest uranium deposit, said Meyer. Shareholders would probably hold out for about £4.50 (R64), he said. - Bloomberg | sagem
22/6/2007 13:49 | hi, you both. really an exceptional bb this one is. | netsdeal
22/6/2007 13:47 | Pleasure pap. Yep, I was always expecting the trouble makers and shorters to turn up here, thankfully they didn't! M | marnewton
22/6/2007 13:44 | Netsdeal, Yes, US futures don't look brilliant. Every time they look like fighting back they give up ground again. 6580 is putting up a good fight but I'm beginning to think there's too much downward pressure. If 6600 on the future (I've edited my previous post where I wrongly quoted '6000') and 6563 on the cash fail I may stop and reverse...with as you say 6450 on the cards... Martin PS Thanks for the 'tiddler';@) | marnewton
22/6/2007 13:36 | Many thanks Martin for the chart. Much appreciated. Yes its a shame some of the advfn bb's of the more "popular" shares attract such "unsavory characters". Fortunately UMN has been free of them. Surprisingly, considering its excellent performance over the past year, UMN has always been a relatively quiet bb. Probably would have been different if it had been a penny share such as the likes of URA, SER etc. | papillon
22/6/2007 13:26 | it looks big UMN sellers are finally done? unless there are still some in Canada? yes, Martin, Fib indeed; hopefully can withstand Dow's testing wave down at US open, like yesterday. otherwise may re-test 6450; hope not! The Times today appears to call Kalahari Minerals as its 'tiddler to watch' | netsdeal
22/6/2007 13:25 | O/T TMC (Posted here to avoid the numerous unsavoury characters on the TMC board!) Hi Pap, There are obvious similarities with UMN...maybe it's a sector thing? There are couple of ESAs you may find useful, ParaSAR and some relevant Fib levels. Of concern are the negative divergences on MACD and RSI. We also had these on UMN but as an indicator they're an 'early warning' and not much good at timing. MoneyFlow and OBV pretty much confirm the price action. So, if you like the TMC story and we both think it's consolidating (Flag?)hereabouts, then it's a buy. Stoploss...plenty of levels to choose from, but I really wouldn't like to go below 392p intraday. Good luck with it, Martin | marnewton
22/6/2007 11:33 | I suppose I will hang on now and wait for the cash and shares in Niger spin off seagreen. Topped up today with TMC. I'd be pleased to hear your opinion on the TMC chart Martin. | papillon
22/6/2007 11:12 | Pap thanks will check that out | seagreen
22/6/2007 10:11 | Hi Guys, Thanks first of all to pap and Netsdeal for your kind words. It does look like a rival bid is less likely now, judging by the price action. But then I always expected this area to be tested again, briefly! seems to think the game's up! I'll give it another couple of days...unless a screaming buy presents itself. Talking of which I intend to top up VML, KAH and possibly AR. further. And EME in my O & G portfolio. And BRM is looking like a buy too, but I'm watching the chart. (I'm sticking with AIM too for the taper relief!) KAH was actually flagged for me by fordtin. I'd looked at it a while ago but put all my U eggs in UMN. So thanks fordtin, and for that excellent link yesterday. Netsdeal. Yes, you were 'bang on' yesterday. I'm still in the trade although 6580 has been tested again this morning. I'm expecting the Future to hit 6600 again which means yesterday's lows (6564) may be re-visited. 6566 and 6571 are Fib supports on my chart. I may have to jump ship if that lot don't hold;@( I think that's everything for now, Cheers, Martin I'll look at TMC later...I'm off out now. And I'll produce a KAH chart too. EDIT: Netsdeal...a firm footing indeed...I hope;@) | marnewton |
