News Story posted 27 June 2005:

United Clearing Plc Directors dealings
The shares have been successfully placed at 80p.........three Directors of the Company as follows:
no. of shares
Michael van Klink, Finance Director 10,000
Peter Jon Carpenter, Non-Executive Director 100,000
Steve Davies, Non-Executive Chairman 30,000

Heavy buying from the two non-exec who, as far as previous news stories show, had never bought a share prior to this date.

Purchase price of 80p subsequently jumped to over £1 in days and then onwards to £1.30. Lucky timing?

All a bit uncertain, and happy enough sitting on sidelines for now. If it gets towards 100p on the offer I'll probably get back in.

Hounddog- are you alleging that Directors were buying without informing the market, as the purchases according to RNSs were small, only major shareholder transactions according to recent RNSs being the "110p placing" sales.

Thanks ppowercourt for the oil overview. Where is the new argument on CDL/JKX price comparison?

Why is UCL falling.......?

Understand that one of the reasons UCL is falling has to with this insider trading rumor. Purchases of stock by 'greedy' directors could be linked to the apparent approaches made to buy the company.
Hence the spike and subsequent cooling off period as the price went way too high - so the theory goes.

It is understood that these buyout discussions are now back in play, as a result of the recent cooling off in the share price.

It is a risky punt but if the company is back in play could push the stock back up in the short term....

Don't know much about oil - Why CDL and why so volatile?

UCL: Off a further 2p from 4.5p tail end of last week. Free falling - maybe results came in below forecast?
Saying that it wouldn't be the first time the management have had to restate their figures.

Shares still look expensive on present figures. Reread last year's year end report - the CEO Devani was making noise about strategic acquistions in '04. It's good to talk.....

Boadicea, Hounddog1 and Wiganer:

Thanks for your responses. All seasoned views and I am learning to see and think more savvy like you. Will decide also after Friday's report. The dilemma facing me is to retain a foothold in hi tech inspite of the booming resource sector's oil and gas. Shall fly like a bee visiting every bloom for an intake of nectar, I suppose.

You're good people and teachers here. Follow me into CDL anyone? At present, you'll be paying 40p to buy one pound. CDL's chairman Bensch, yesterday at the Oil Barrel conference, said that CDL's produced per barrel price was only 10-20% to that of JKX's per barrel. Sorry Off-topic!

Also concerned about recent share price slippage - another 2p today! Combined with market gossip re insider dealing, news being a little thin re major mobile phone operator contract wins 'framework agreement' do not count as deals in my line of business. So makes for cautious times. As a consequence sold all my holding on Tuesday.

ppowerscourt - what makes you confident on future prospects?

The company announced a while ago that it was looking at using some / all of its cash pile to make strategic acquisitions. Still no news on this front? Maybe it should use this to return some money to shareholders.

Year end report this Friday so should be interesting......

You're right, Wiganer. Resource small caps is a prolonged pain; often 12-24 months wait for germination. Oil explore is faster than mineral explore. At least with the former, there's the rumour/waiting for news game which can earn investors interest money! Been nursing KYS for too long!

Exception today is Cardinal Resources! (The Grand Daddy of oil is His Eminence Sranmal.)

I have no knowledge of these insider dealing rumours other than the above postings. For what it's worth though I did think the timing of Mr Klink's last disposal was "interesting" coming just ahead of the "110p placing" news. Then again, it was a tiny stake, about £6000 from memory, and the share price did subsequently recover, so didn't think too much of it.

Regarding KYS, not in yet, but tempted. Am a bit overweight in small caps/resource stocks at moment though, so might pass.

Wiganer:

Any substance to the rumour of UCL "insider trading"? The share price slippage is not reversing and that's worrying. I'm still confident on future prospects.

Off-Topic:

Are you in KYS yet? I'm more than confident of a highly positive results there.

Cheers!

Can anyone help?

Have heared a nasty rumour that UCL is being investigated for insider dealing. Large number of shares being bought and sold by the board?

It was worrying enough to see the CEO and MD sell a significant holding at a massive discount to the then market price!

Any thoughts anyone?

Why is UCL slipping?"

No idea, but I sold up on Friday Morning, as didn't like recent price action. Still like the company though, and will be looking to buy back in at some point.

I have just read post 183.
These journalists make me laugh. The contract with Globalstar was announced on 12th Sept. The company year ends on 30th Sept so there will hardly be much contribution for the year! It might get a mention in the outlook.
And the results? - next month??? I don't know of any September year-end company reporting in October; sometime in the second half of November would be highly creditable and I would pitch for the 25th.
The broker forecasts, of course, can be taken a little more seriously and all the indications are that this is a winner imho, (but dyor).

ppowerscourt - "Why is it slipping?".
Many of the punters who buy these small cap stocks have an equally small attention span and soon suffer from boredom. Realising that they may have to wait until November for any major news, they are off to double their money three times over in other stocks before returning to UCL in mid-November for a pre-results ramp. Just watch!
It is for these intervening dull spots that the longer term investor must look.
It can even be profitable to play a contra game, selling the day before results and buying back a week or so after. This is especially true when the results are expected to be good.

from the independant online.
CLEARING UP OPERATION

Finally, yet more bullish news is on the way from United Clearing this week. The group, which provides outsourcing services to the mobile phone industry, has won another contract and the deal is likely to be announced as early as today. United Clearing has secured Globalstar Europe Satellite, the world's most widely used handheld satellite phone provider, as a customer.

The coup will come hot on the heels of similar deals with Orange, Hutchison 3G Ireland and O2 Ireland and should mean that the company's full-year results, expected next month, impress the City. Brokers forecast United Clearing to unveil a pre-tax profit of £1m and tip this to soar to £1.6m in 2006. Although the group's shares have soared by 70 per cent since its float last year, there seems to be plenty more upside in the stock

United Catamites? Not us, surely. £160 does seem a little optimistic, Innovation, but I'll buy you a beer if it gets there. My immediate target is only one hundredth of that.

'Its heading in the right direction, although if a major contract is on the horizan (Vodafone?) look at £160p plus.'

My source could only give me cryptic clues to who the major contract was being signed with, which I took to be Vodafone, so was a little surpised, albeit happy at the same time, to see it was the Orange Group.
