"ASD-1X Commitment Well – The ED-50 rig will now move to the north of the Abu Sennan licence, close to the producing Al Jahraa field to commence the drilling of the ASD-1 exploration well. The well is to target the Abu Roash reservoirs in the Prospect D structure, and if successful can be brought onstream through the existing Al Jahraa facilities. Whilst the geological chance of success and the prospective resources of the Prospect D target have not been made public, we would expect that the prospect is of relatively low risk (for an exploration well) given it is a four-way dip closed structure close to existing discoveries and the historic 80% success rate on the licence."

Anyone run the numbers at a 65 dollar oil price and factoring in an extra 1000 barrels a day.

..It's not quite 1000bopd, there's also some gas & much more to the point, they're talking about working interest, not entitlement.....

As a comparison 3000 a day at 60 compared with 2300 at 50 is 180000 a day against 115000. A 50 percent rise. This share is a stonking buy.

Cenkos seems to be adding 2p per successful well drilled and we've got 35 self funded drill targets. I'm holding for the lot of them.

valhalla I'm a big picture guy, all the pedantics over sellers, cos for an individual well, partner for Jamaica none of it means jack. This management and this company will make those who don't need to be reassured every five minutes over every minute detail a shed load of money long after the doom mongers and naysayers have departed.I put my money where my mouth is and plenty of it. Now the cork has popped let's see if my decision to keep buying whilst being held back turns out to be justified.I couldn't give a monkeys if people wanna be sly or negative I'll be making money regardless ;)

CROAS I have to pull you up on a few things and Manini you are well off the mark with your back of the cigarette calculations. You don't factor in either microscopic bugs eating the oil or Dusta Derek investing here. So please DYOR IMHO TYVFM G-#

Geological chance of success (GCOS) is determined by multiplying the probability of four uncertainty factors together:Source rock: the presence of a rock in the region which has reached maturity to produce oil/gas.Migration pathway: a route from the source rock towards the prospect. This depends on several factors, such as formation dip in the area and presence of sealing structures.Reservoir rock: presence of a porous rock, e.g. sandstone, capable of containing the hydrocarbons while also being able to release/flow the hydrocarbons over a production timescale when a pressure drop is applied.Trap: to ensure the hydrocarbons in the reservoir cannot escape. There are different types of trap, the main types being structural and stratigraphic, and there are marny factors which can cause a trap to fail. The final chance of success is determined by multiplying the probability of the above 4 factors together which is why GCOS figures are always very low, particularly for exploration wells and sometimes for appraisal wellsFor example:Source rock - 90%Migration - 90%Reservoir - 90%Trap - 75%Leads to a COS of 55% despite having high confidence in all factors. If there's any significant doubt in any component it immediately brings the COS right down, eg changing reservoir confidence in the above example from 90 to 50% would change COS to 30%.

The upcoming explo well is decribed by UOG as "low risk".....30 to 50% is low risk for an explo well....

So the pair of you are criticising my use of the 80% cos of success quote from the UOG presentations yet neither of you actually know the cos. Levi has had a guess at 30-50%. Fancy a guess Spangle or are you quickly emailing the company to get the actual figure? Do you not see the irony here?My original post was to neither of you two clowns, I was making a rather general point to illustrate the fact that we have a good thing here. I don't profess to be an oil expert but equally I won't jump into someone else's conversation if I don't actually know the facts myself!

Listen to the video Manini he talks about the risk profile being different to Ash3.
By their very nature exploration wells have a lower chance of success than step outs and appraisal.
I don't believe a CoS has been given per se but it will likely be between 30 to 50%.
