..... and yet quieter.

I do in fact find it strange. This particular share has so many characteristics that should appeal to the personal investor. The UK has this absolute obsession with bricks and mortar, and Unite is in some respects a kin to a collective buy-to-let investment. The student market is more readily understandable than the commercial property market, and many investors will have a connection to it through their children. Put these factors together with the undervaluation (sp to nav) and you would expect a lot more of a following than evidently is the case.

Hi high park,

Still here and still in. I've been pursuing some other opportunities so haven't had the time to post. Besides, the share price has done the talking.

Regards, Maddox

Has everyone gone?

Interesting move back up again today, heading back towards 300?

Is anybody here eligible for the open offer? Have you any thoughts about taking or rejecting?

Interesting observation, rochdae.

5 or 6 years ago Unite attemted a fund raising which really upset the City, and they marked UTG down for a couple of years thereafter. This time it's entirely different.

Obviously they had this rights issue all set up long before the share price reached their level. Did they manipulate the share price to reach their target?

The response also gives food for thought. On the 16th the price rose 15p, and there were 270 buys (x1000) and 190 sells. On the 17th there were 400 buys and a massive 2000 sells, yet the share price rose another 5p. On the 18th 600 buys and 260 sells and the share price whooshed another 15p to 295, making the offer irresistible. What is noticeable in studying the trades is the number of small, and even tiny contracts, a whole string of 1 share sales at certain times. Not that many large trades. So is it retail rather that Institutions driving this? The almost unique rights issue, rather than the more economical placing with Institutions, is certainly in the interest of the retail trade.

On a slightly different note, where is Maddox? Haven't seen him since May, used to be our most regular poster.

And the rise continues.

Fund raising was considered a negative, almost a survival tactic over the last few bear years. Now it's being viewed as an expansion boost. Market's changed its focus. As always it's ahead the the crowd.

Lots of co's now looking for cash to fund expansion. Grab some land while it's cheap imo. A few pence of yesterday's closing high doesn't bother me.

Placing today at 250p. I'm out. Never get any profitability here or dividend so glad to get out at a profit after holding for 5 years or so. May well go higher, but fundamentally not a great business as never generates much of a cash return. This new property boom is getting a bit out of hand given a very poor economic environment. Credit to Unite though for raising money at such a good price, particularly compared to other property groups earlier in the year.

jarvo, this one has gone from 36p to almost £2.50.. student accomodation is almost recession resiliant if not so.

This share is an unsung star in my portfolio. It has doubled in a couple of months based on a solid business model but I can't help thinking that there may be more news to come !
