boadicea: Very reassuring results. I would have topped up if I had been properly alert at 8am but will not chase price in current markets. I have a reasonable holding anyway - in fact a bit more 'reasonable' this morning!

melton john: I don't agree loganair, when a share spikes like this one they are left short of stock having sold what they haven't got. They follow up with a tree shake, a massive drop of the bid price which lowers the mid price but leaves the offer price as was. Now they are getting the stock they need at a low price to balance the book.

loganair: A very high spread usually means that the MMs are not wanting to buy the stock in question and to hold any spare stock on their books as they fear the price of the stock is more likely to be going down rather then up.

dealit: Universe are well placed to be relatively unaffected in these crazy times. 5p would be a good price now, with a bounce when the markets recover IMHO.

dangersimpson2: Was recorded by PI world I believe, but not gone up online yet as far as I can see. I attended the presentation - was a bit rambling IMO, Jeremy Lewis seemed to love the product so much he spent most of the time focused on that and we didn't get into as much detail on the financials as I would have liked. Not necessarily bad to have a CEO that is passionate about the product and to be fair the things UNG can offer convenience stores is really impressive, and better than the current technology that the big supermarkets have at the moment - personalised adverts & offers, in-store guidance to products etc. I just doubt whether anyone would bother with this when they go into their local costcutter for a 4-pinter! A couple of other points that stood out to me: - Celtech acquisition was really positive for the company - lots of cross-selling opportunities & all back end systems are transitioning to ab-initio. - This should drive modest revenue growth (UNG are in the sweet spot with about 7% market share - enough to be a player, with a decent client list, not enough that growth would be difficult. Aim is to go from 7% to 12% market share in the next few years. - more importantly, net margins should head back towards the 10% level as they transition completely to ab initio for back end systems. If you do the maths on the revenue increase and margin increase you get some pretty decent profit figures compared to today's price. The question is can they deliver? If they do this won't be an overnight thing - they are targetting mid-21 - but the market is forward-looking so I'd expect the price to significantly appreciate in the next year or so if they are showing signs of delivering. The presence of two strategic funds on the register - Downing & Gresham House - means that they will be getting the guidance/support they need, and pressure to deliver too. I know at least one of those funds seems confident that they will be able to do what they say. I also wonder if they would make sense as an add on to one of the bigger players in the sector. For example, they do all the Morrisons petrol stations but not the stores where a much larger company is needed to deliver the PoS tech. Could be a cheap bolt-on to such a company to immediately add market share & cross-sell. Just to be clear, this bit wasn't talked about by the company though - this is just my general musing. HTH

thorne3: Although any significant increase in profitability over the last three years has been held back by a high level of development expenditure ie investment in the future, which is either written off annually or capitalised and amortised annually, the returns from this investment may now be beginning to pay off.Although there has also been quite a significant increase in senior management spend eg on marketing, much of the GP on increased turnover should flow thru' to the bottom line, all this aided and abetted by selective acquisition activity.I have been a little critical of senior management in the past on account of what I would describe as an somewhat overly conservative approach to business not least a parsimonious newsflow, however I have always been advised that the figures will talk in due course.Perhaps this is about to happen.I also think and have stated to the Board that a share consolidation would be a good idea in order to get the company out of the "penny stock" category and all that this connotes;furthermore it would it go some way to reducing the excessively large spreads that market makers seem able to charge on any share transaction.

loganair: Still waiting for my first divi for many a year. One thing I have noticed about the UNG share price how every time it seems to rise to the directors share option price then stabilizes until the next set of higher priced directors options.

loganair: I think UNG share price is going to act in a similar way to United Carpets whose share price rose 25% in a week after they announce the resumption of Dividend payments. I other words the resumption of dividend payments will be the catalyst for a major rise in the UNG share price.
