Are these worth keeping an eye on as a possible contrarian punt?

The price is now down to around the NAV and they were profitable and cash generative before all the exceptionals.

The balance sheet doesn´t look that bad, not totally overgeared anyway. I know some of the new competitve pressures aren´t going to go away but the trading environment should improve eventually. Shouldn´t it?

Their record speaks for itself. But hey! thats why they make the serious money and the rest of the fools post on advfn wishing they could make any money.

I suspect we will see their "strategy" soon

Slightly less millions in this one than they started with. Who knows about their longer-term strategy, but their timing isn't great:

I like what they call excellent cashflow. £6m cash outflow before financing. The only reason they kept their head above water is via £10m new financing. These people are liars and wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

Do they still have their stake?

Dont think its anything to do with that anymore. Its a property play and trades at a substantial discount to NAV. I think the Reubens will move soon IMHO. They hardly own close to 30% for the fun of it!

Late licence and the smoking ban seem to be a couple of rather large hurdles for ULG to jump. Large nightclubs with nowhere for punters to go for a smoke, pubs on late licences with garden acting as smoking area.

Other large pub chains using quality food to attract non smoking punters which is working for some of them as they make more from food sales than beverages.

Yes, it is LBO, I stated a while back that the profit warnings were overdone in my opinion and it seemed as if they wanted the share price to tank, maybe I am being dramatic. With the current shareholder line-up things will likely get interesting as you say.

bought some today on the basis that David and Simon Reuben are not passive investors. They will shake this company up. They already own wellington pubs and will have something in mind for this business. may even see them paid to go away

Jeff for a man that thinks these companies are a "pile of poo" (and how intelligently and maturely you express yourself) you seem to follow them with a lot of interest and emotion.

Funny that

(ps I see your trying to insinuate above that you believe you have an indepth knowledge of the pub/bar/lesiure sector.. (Are you an aggrieved bartender by any chance?)

can anyone tell me how an 11% drop in turnover leads to a 70% drop in profits at half year?
