Davy's latest forecast for 2009 has been increased to 28.9c which equals 12% EPS growth. They say the share is trading on a multiple of 12 which discounts its defensive qualities.

T/S due on 12th August. NBC has increased its 2009 EPS forecast for UDG after the Sharp acquisition. The new figure is 29.07c. Their price target remains at Euro 4.40 representing a 26% upside.

Interestly enough my high end expectations were for 26.3c EPS so add another cent onto that for 27.3c. That gives a multiple of 12.82 which is fairly cheap for UDG given that it was trading on a P/E north of 16, which was a little lower then the long term EPS growth average, during the last few years. EPS growth over the last 5 years has averaged at 15% ( and still this board has tumbleweed all over it ) so therefore a multiple of 15 seems appropriate as during a recession people still need drugs and its associated services. Of course the HSE decision could bring EPS up or down either way but I think that there's a long way to go until we get a concrete decision. Anyhow there seems to be a difference of 2.18 on the multiple so a rerating should see the price rise by 60c which is 17%. Given that end of year is September, which we are nearly at, it is also nearly time to start looking at 2009 which should boost EPS by an extra 14 - 15% or so. Giving an appropriate share price of around 470c but more likely around 420 - 450c if the market remains cautious.

From Goodbody this AM: * Acquisition financed from internal resources and existing debt facilities * Sharp = largest independent contact packaging company in US * European packing margins would imply EBITA of US$11m which = adding Euro 2.8m to FY08 earnings. * This would add 1c to EPS which is forecasted at 25.54c ( I am hoping for 26c or better but will take anything better than say 25c ) * At 9X EBIT deal is within range of previous deals ( TD Packaging = 8X as was MPF, Budelpack was done at 10X ) * interest cover should drop to 5.7X from 9.3X and gearing should increase from 23.8% to 38.6% * Sharp = is biggest acquisition in UDG history and is immediately earnings enhancing ( as described above )

Looks like UDG made a Sharp acquisition: http://www.advfn.com/p.php?pid=nmona&cb=1216189798&article=27344063&symbol=L%5EUDG Actuallly I am not sure if it is a sharp acquisition as I think that the US$ will keep falling.

Also regard John Lee highly, and was aware he has held udg. for a number of years. He usually sings its praises a few times a year describing it as well run with increasing divi. returns. I missed his latest comments as i was away.

Looks like the seasonal downturn is starting. Reckon I'll pick up a few more if it drops low enough and depending on the HSE decision of course. I was reading last weekends FT and had to do a double take when I saw that John Lee also owns UDG. He is my favourite columnist in the FT.

I have just calculated that UDG has given me an 18.23% CAGR per annum over the last 5 years. Quite a satisfactory achievement for this stock I think :O)

No need to thank me for anything culchi, I just do what I like doing. :O) I seem to be building a nice little stake in SFR atm. Ex-divi next Wednesday with a near 4.25% final dividend ( 6.37% full year divi ).

sorry liars i spent month of april touring cities of southern spain with my missus, got back to a work overload .Had a glance at results in a relaxed way and saw the usual reliable performance. As i said on ang. thread , this is now my second highest stock holding in value terms. Have held since 2001 and use scribs to add to my holding. As you say a most underrated management ,now adding value by acquiring higher margin add on businesses. i now feel i will be trading less in forthcoming years, as i think i have a balanced high quality portfolio. Like most people i have learned from my mistakes, also learned a lot from posters like yourself ,jt cod etc. Bought een and dgo (thanks mainly to jt postings) with proceeds of bur. takeover, while quality companies like sfr. and sgi were highlighted in various posts and i was lucky to buy them on dips. The only stock i got doubtful about was taih. but jts reasoned posts have kept me faithful although still at a loss. Biggest loss has been with sterling slump but hopefully this will correct itself .Thanks for all your work on this and other threads, always appreciated even if we dont post often.

I like blabbing on to myself. :O) I just find it strange how everyone seems to be chasing the latest trendy share when this is growing at about 15% per year. At this rate the share price doubles every 5 years, more if you take the scrip divi. Have you missed the boat as regards getting them cheap - I can't answer that djderry, only you can. ;o) As I see it from an EPS perspective: Historically EPS growth has been about 15% per annum therefore a multiple of 15 would be suitable. It looks like UDG will do 25 cents this year therefore an approximate price would be 375 cents ( about where we are now ). From an intrinsic value point of view: You can take the 375 cent figure to start with and add a little for credible management, a market leading position in Ireland, the move into diversification of higher margin sectors, brand names etc etc. You might get 400c as fair value, you might get 440c for fair value. It depends on the individual. You can also deduct a little due to regulation etc. Anyhow that's enough rambling for me but a final thought might be to wait and hope a summer dip will occur ( like in the last few years ) and add then on a 10% discount from the 375c figure to get a little margin of safety so add at say sub 340c if you get the chance.

Looks like a new high - strange how a thread like this gets no posts from anyone even though the share keeps making new highs and growing at around 15% per year. Perhaps everyone has bought and have tucked them away. ;o)
