11/4/2007 12:52 | Good news, the start of European expansion: RNS Number:6789U United Drug PLC 11 April 2007 UNITED DRUG ACQUIRES BELGIAN BASED PHARMACEUTICAL CONTRACT PACKAGING BUSINESS United Drug plc, a leading provider of services to healthcare manufacturers and pharmaceutical retailers in Ireland and the UK today (Wednesday, 11th April 2007) announced that it has acquired the Pharma and Healthcare packaging division of Budelpack International, based in Hamont in Northern Belgium. The Budelpack Hamont business is an FDA-approved facility that provides a full range of contract packaging services designed specifically for the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry and they work with a number of international manufacturers throughout Europe. The business currently employs approximately 140 people, including senior management, all of whom will remain with the business. Speaking today, United Drug's Chief Executive, Liam FitzGerald said: "The acquisition of the Budelpack Hamont business is a significant development for our Supply Chain Services Division and for the United Drug Group. This is the first development into Continental Europe of our strategy to build an international pharma and healthcare services company and a continuation of our focus on higher margin activities where we can add value to our pharmaceutical and healthcare manufacturer customer base. The acquired business fits very well with our existing packaging business in the UK, TD Packaging. "Budelpack Hamont is a business focussed on delivering a high quality service to customers and it is led by an excellent management team. I welcome all new employees to the United Drug Group". Ends. 04/4/2007 10:49 | OK my thoughts on the T/S: All in all it sounds like the UDG we know. Interims released on 9th May, 2007. The 4 divisions: Pharma Wholesale ( Sangers, United Drug Wholesale - independant pharmacists, Bradbury Surgical ) Supply Chain Services ( United Drug Distributors - largest business within SCS, UniDrug Distribution Group, TDPackaging, Masta, Pemberton/Blackhall ) Medical & Scientific ( Ireland = Unitech, Intraveno, Intrapharma. UK = Presearch, Endoscopy, Pyramed. Northern Ireland = Vector Scientific, Ulster Anaesthetics, Primacare ) Contract Sales Outsourcing ( UK = In2focus, Ashfield ). It is my own opinion that UDG is moving into the UK market in order to ofset the Pricing Agreement which occured recently in Ireland. The last few acquisitions have been in the UK and I would not be surprised if the next few acquisitions were in the UK either. Revenue in Ireland has fallen to 69.6% of total revenue in 2006 versus 71.8% in 2005. I think it is an honest T/S with the company stating that volume slowed in the run up to the pricing reduction but that volumes are back to normal now. Pharma Wholesale = Good Growth - I think this growth is caused by the 'catalyst support package' which UDG provide to independent pharmacists. These pharmacies continue to outperform corporate owned pharmacies. Sangers always seems to do well too. SCS - as stated MASTA is performing ahead of expectations. TDpackaging is also performing strongly and the move to Magna Park should improve economies of scales and related measurements. UniDrug Distribution group are also performing very strongly. Medical & Scientific - a bit of cut and paste should explain things clearly: The development of this business in the UK market has been aided by a full six month contribution from Endoscopy, another high quality medical distributor, that joined the Group during the second half of 2006.Endoscopy is on schedule to achieve its earn-out targets later this year. This period will also include a contribution from Pyramed acquired during February this year. Contract Sales Outsourcing - again cut and paste: Our Contract Sales Outsourcing division is performing well in a challenging market place. The combined Ashfield and In2Focus brands have given us a market leading position in the UK and this is reflected in good growth and development in this division. Ashfield Ireland is performing strongly too and should have another best year in 2007.The Pam Labs contract should boost US business as well but not as much as the Sales Force Effectiveness (SFE) programme. The two Nurse Advisor Contracts with Novartis should have ongoing benefits as well in 2007. | liarspoker | |
