ruth,
that's right. Another way of looking at it is that if a company has a p/e of 10, then if it paid all it's earnings out as dividends and if you buy some shares today then you would get all your money paid back in 10 years.

ruth I expect if it does go through 420 the move will be quite violent - there must be a lot of stops there.

can someone briefly tell me whar relevance the p/e has on a stock, does it mean roughly that if a stock is say a p/e of 10 if someone wanted to buy them out they have to pay 10 years worth of profit for the company,or am i totally barking up the wrong tree

LLucky : re your earlier comment . Option deadline on 21st and several shares like TSCO and RTO trading at or close to critical exercise level. Are they manipulated down ?? How do you read it ?

industrial production worse than expected, just on bloomberg, but not affecting markets as yet, think you can throw anything at it and it still wont come down

David: ICI present strength due to drop of oil price ? Otherwise agree re longterm problems as highlighted recently by ST .
Ruth: Bus companies also benefitting from expectation of fuel cost drop . I prefer NEX and arriva .
Re: Moni .Obviously very high risk but company still has huge following of hopeful gamblers , especially now they have been on a short winning streak. Note of caution : A huge sale of 69Mill shares went through at market close recently @ 26p but seems to have caught little market attention .
Nice comments alround here today .

JR - ICI, noted. My bet is not high-roller material and I would be stopped by 450 anyway :)

niggle,

Re WPP, I have this niggling feeling that if this irrational exuberance continues ( it could ? ) then if WPP closes above 200 day ma and long term downtrend, it is very likely to continue upwards.
Particularly if it closes above both over 2 days.

I am happy to be corrected by those with greater knowledge :-)
