Facebook continues to grow impressively, look at Q1 results. As an advertiser why would you pull back from this ? The reach is unbelievable. Why would you redeploy funds into a Trinity ? A 9pc decline in revenue year to date at Trinity is appalling

city - I don't know the commercial model, but : hTtps://www.mirrorreaderoffers.co.uk/ I think this has been a feature of the paper editions for decades and the website has been there for at least 14 years, although the "wayback machine" redirects all of the 2004 archives to the main mirror webpage so I've no idea what was there. There are NO genuinely new ideas in the world. ;-) Who knows though, given the trend of mistrust towards the internet behemoths, there may be scope to improve the attraction of an internet marketplace run by a British company paying British taxes over a company that 'resides' (and miraculously generates all its profits) in whichever country has the loosest tax regime this year. Anyways - looking forwards to reading the trading statement tomorrow.

I can't make AGM tomorrow. I know everyone will be talking about the Express but for me the real interest is in the Facebook scandal and whether it has any impact, and also the growth rate in digital display advertising. Any feedback would be great.

With more momentum and an out the box idea. TNI has potential to make some hefty gains. Like selling items via their websites and take a 5% commission. All digital and the manufacturer do the servicing. Maybe the simple ideas seem to be too good.

City good find. Trinity is already the biggest in digital when you include their regionals, in total they beat the Express Group on their own.

TNI trading update next week - Thursday the 3rd of May. It would be especially pleasing to hear if there has been any increase in advertising spend in relation to the Facebook debacle and false news stories.

I have just counted the national titles in the ABC circulation surveys. There are only 8 Mirror Group out of 22 national titles not counting the Metros and the Evening Standard which are both bigger than most of the national circulating titles. The Minister's slave obviously cannot count!

Kazoom, good piece. I agree hard to see how they can logically be knocked back when Facebook et al now have much bigger market share than all papers combined.

Spot, I hope that does not mean they lose their "earth is flat" loyal supporters. I am a little nervous with the big price rise for the Star, it will certainly help short term revenue but its readers have shown in the past that they are very price sensitive. Still on balance I would have done it myself.

Interesting comment by The Sun's Tom Newton Dunn on the Sky press review tonight, looking at the lead story in the Express, as an aside he said that it is becoming much more readable now with better content under its new ownership.

Kazoom, My earlier comment is purely about digital, like you I am optimistic that we see some stability in print ad revenue this year.

Kazoom, good points but TNI overall in display digital ads is growing revenue nearly twice as fast as JPR. Partly due to audience growth which continues to outperform and also from what I hear is more efficient software and sales systems introduced in the last year. I have always kept abreast of the growth in viewer numbers and been disappointed in the lack of revenue numbers to go with it. Like you I feel the company now has the opportunity to change that. Social media could well be severely impacted by the current scandals, TNI is now the biggest digital news source in the UK, it is becoming better at monetising, and has a major location advantage with its regional network, and the Express sites will add extra depth. The regional point JPR mentioned but they do not have the spread or numbers.

Thanks for that link smicker - very pertinent news I think. Here's the link to JPR RNS itself. Https://www.investegate.co.uk/johnston-press-plc--jpr-/rns/final-results/201804170700061039L/ Notably they say they Ad revenues in Q1 "tracked in line with prior year" (the wording is not totally clear, but I think this refers only to their regionals) - note that before that they were seeing the same declining trends as TNI. The put this down to : 1. advertisers starting to increase spend in regional print (but surely that should mean revenues up?) 2. a somewhat stronger overall advertising market 3. our ability to precisely target audiences using 'big data' 4. improving sentiment towards quality print publishers in the wake of the Fake News and social media trust concerns. Now number 3 is potentially company specific (or just as likely self-congratulatory puff) but there is no reason to believe TNI wouldn't be doing the same. The other factors one would expect to impact across the industry. So hopefully in a couple of weeks time Simon Fox will stand up at the AGM and give a similarly positive message. Ad revenues flat rather than declining by c. 10% would make quite a difference to the numbers!! The JPR share price was unmoved, and nobody could even summon up the enthusiasm to comment on the ADVFN JPR board - but that is probably because the bigger question there is whether shareholders will be left with any equity once the bonds become due.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5620031/Wetherspoons-close-Twitter-Facebook-Instagram-accounts.html Good for Wetherspoons. I hope this is a continuing trend!! It could also benefit us massively if they shift advertising spend to traditional media like at TNI.
