Aha - hTtps://www.gov.uk/government/news/cma-launches-trinity-mirrorexpress-merger-investigation Today the CMA announced the initiation of their investigation to the merger (about time) and they will have it complete by 7th June (two months not too bad I think). Also said they have referred to Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport - who presumably will have a separate review. Neither good news nor bad news I think, but at least we have a timetable now. Remember TNI's view on this was : "The Board continues to believe that there will be no reduction in media plurality as a result of the Acquisition, as each newspaper brand will continue with its current editorial positioning, and that there will not be any detrimental impact on competition as a result of the Acquisition." Meanwhile in squiggle news, support on uptrend since early Feb is still intact and other test of the 89p resistance could be on the cards in the next few days. ;-)

That sounds like a famous last word. albert zog 11 Apr '18 - 12:51 - 2235 of 2235 0 0 0 YouGov is much bigger and more highly rated than Trinity, it’s also pure digital. Trinity has to stick to its newspaper origins, cannot diversify. So doing deals outside this sector are impossible

Citycon, these guys are good operators and personally I am pleased they are not taking on more than they can handle. The Express group will have a lot of wrinkles to get on top of, especially as they have alerted everyone that cost cutting is planned. I see the Feb digital figures were stable whilst most of the others were knocked around probably by the games Facebook has been playing with their prioritising of favourite news sources. The March numbers will be interesting to see if this is a trend. Too early to see how they are building the Express online but this must be a growth opportunity.

Just watching a couple of shares that were about 70 same time as tni, st Ives Zoo digital, you Gov and Future Plc last 2 in the news buisness and information buisness shares have all jumped. Amazes me as why fox and Co did not run a slide rule on the last 2. Any ideas?

Hi Kazoom, Temptation: to think the future can be predicted from patterns in the past. To think there is future causality in past patterns. This belief and the arts that go with it have been revived again and again in different forms. Glad to hear you're not sold on TA. Don't see any serious evidence it Wworks. Why would it? With TNI and many other value-style stocks, boring is part of tha appeal, surely? Good luck, CJohn.

No doubt TNI's share price fortunes will change with the renaming of the company to Reach PLC at the 5th May AGM ;-)

Good to see the increase of cover prices for the Express and Star, now more in line with the Mirror which is 75p. Wondered when the Mail will follow suit. The acquisition of Northern and Shell at least eliminates the price wars Desmond used to resort to in order to gain more circulation for his papers.

Worry not CJohn, It's more of a passing fancy / experiment - I do think that there is 'something' in charting, but whether or not it is something I can profitably utilise is yet to be seen!! In the past I've traded in and out of value positions, with variable success so as TNI is seriously BORING atm I thought I'd see what I can do with a more structured approach. Currently "in" with my trading position, although in truth I made a mistake of not sell at 84p ish a few days ago. I wonder if Technical Analysis has ever had to deal with someone like Mr Trump before?? (At least I think TNI are probably mostly insulated from that particular madness)

Hi Kazoom, encouraging to see you have got into the ancient art of discerning the future from the splatter pattern of sacrificed partridges. Long live the haruspex! all best CJohn

After reading an article, I looked at my facebook app.settings. I rarely use fb and was surprised to see that I apparently had 6/7 apps enabled. Of these, all bar one, were from companies or were for things I have never even heard of, let alone allowing them to track me. I wonder how many others will find the same. I dont know the explanation, but this is unsatisfactory and later, I will complain to the information commissioner.

Gfrae this Facebook scandal is getting worse and worse, the personal intrusion lid is now really opening. Today's price action says the market is making a decision even if Suckenberg can't.

Hadn't noticed that city, the only automated stops I have here are my 'armageddon stops' - I'll have a look though. Meanwhile, in this morning, later & higher than intended @84.5

Kazoom people with stops must be getting hit every morning as the buy price usually holds but the sell price sometimes drops 4 or 5 pence. What's that all about?

A bit more technibabble from me. The recovery later in the day on Friday and close at 83.5 puts the price right on the rising support line on the daily chart, so it seems to me that if the price holds or rises early on Monday, that support line is reinforced so could be indicative of another try at breaking 89p, but even a decent move up to 89 would give a decent trading profit. Will be watching carefully Monday morning for an opportunity.

I think its some kind of transfer smicker, if you add the 2 smaller trades together, they equal the bigger one. And all at the same price. Hardly rocked the market anyway.

Volume just gone through is almost equal to the total aviva shareholding from their last RNS. Hopefully thats the end of them

The drop this morning suggest to me that short term, we've lost the more aggressive uptrend and have a little further to fall. I'm sure it's just related to the broader market rather than TNI specific, so nothing at this stage to make me question my core holding, but from the point of view of my little trading experiment nothing makes me want to buy at this point - might look again if/when we reach 76/77. But NO ADVICE INTENDED - wtfdik.

Well that's charts for you - it briefly broke the 89p resistance but the proceeded to crash through the bottom of my triangle and through what looked like it might be support at 86p. That was enough for me, so I'm now down one slap up dinner rather than up one :-( If the price recovers a little early tomorrow we could still be in the two month uptrend, otherwise I think testing support (76-77ish) on the slightly longer, but shallower uptrend.

Might, and should, draw attention to the anti democratic affect of the evil giants sucking up all local advertising, thereby making it all but impossible to pay for good local journalism, which can keep in check local corruption etc.etc. Somehow I doubt it though !
