the 15% mentioned does not justify the technology being used, imho.

JAILBIRD: The key thing to look for - apart from continuing improvements in reliability - is better economy than that so far achieved in the Epsom trial (which just involves one vehicle). If TRAC can crack that then the prospects are excellent.

from 31/5 statement

Results from the Merseyside and Ipswich trials are expected within the next few
weeks and the Company will make further announcements in due course. Traction
is particularly proud that the Epsom trial bus's reliability enabled it recently
to achieve a mileage equivalent to a journey around the world.

so this could come anyday now.

All that dropping on 26,000 shares then two strong 10,000 Buys and almost full support.
This share is a little volatile!

Good point MT - not clear if they have anything novel I mean in a patent sense. A bit of history on the link below re Supercapacitors, which seems to be a key part of their product, is a lightwight piece of text that suggest others including big names are active. Maybe TRAC have better Supercapacitor - if so that would be relevent to grabbing market I suspect; but not much on their site to suggest this. Perhaps one to watch?

MTG - You are absolutely right. ...and good question

Transport for London is trialling three different makes of hybrid bus engines at the moment including one of Traction Technology's which has been installed in a Quality Line bus.

Traction Technology is up against some tough comeptition from larger and better-resourced competitors - but right now everything in this field is up for grabs and TRAC's energy management system (using a compbination of batteries, capacitors and a small diesel generator) seems to be developing well. When the motors on each wheel are used for braking they re-charge the batteries

Fuel savings, reportedly. are not working out to be that great - about 15% rather than the 50% hoped for. Unless the fuel savings are improved it would be hard to build a case for TRAC's units on financial criteria alone - but of course if there was a public subsidy (like windfarms receive) for "green" buses that would transform the economics. The other issue is reliability which is said to be improving.

It would be good to have some input here from someone who can tell us whether TRAC has a technological "edge" on its competitors.

Other makers of hybrid buses have been using the same combination (batteries/supercapacitors and diesel/gas) for at least two years.. makers of all-electric vehicles also use supercapacitors, which allow rapid uptake of quickly generated electricity (eg from regenerative braking) and rapid delivery of same (for acceleration from a standing start, with batteries kicking in once vehicle is running).

Have TT done anything other than give the process a new label?

Traction launches power pack range

Industry Sector
Electronic & Electrical Equip.
Traction Technology, the company that makes environmentally friendly, low emission Series Diesel Electric Hybrid engine systems, has launched a new 'TRIBRID' product range for bus operators. TRIBRID is a power pack that has the ability to draw on three separate power sources for use in bus engines.

When the TRIBRID Power Pack is in use, power is automatically managed between the diesel power unit, conventional batteries or from Supercapacitors. Supercapacitors are very high value capacitors that can store much larger amounts of energy, to the point where they can act like batteries and propel the bus. They are capable of millions of charge and discharge cycles at high currents which make them highly suitable for hybrid vehicles.

The TRIBRID, by blending these three sources of energy, optimises the efficiency of the bus as it can vary the horse power, energy usage or battery capacity of the bus to suit all requirements.

The Guardian reports Traction aims to take advantage of a recent European Commission directive regulating carbon emissions from public transport, as well as the Mayor of London Ken Livingstone's ambition to put 500 hybrid buses on the capital's roads each year. The group has already received orders from Transport for London and the coach operator Epsom Coaches for its products.

Nick Brayshaw, chief executive, said: "Trials of our product have confirmed that fuel consumption figures improve by 50 per cent compared with a standard diesel-powered engine."

Cannot believe the valuation (curently £30 million) based on a wing and a prayer at this stage of the company's development. If TAN was valued in the same way it would be in the FTSE100 already. Leaving this until the price comes down.

WTF is going on with this share, TB tipped it to buy limit 30p with 12 month target of 50p - In just 4 days it has gone past the his 12 month target by 20% and is up 150% from close last Friday. I have not been trading long but that doesn't happen too often without a major news announcemnent does it?? Is this starting to look good for a short term short to anyone?

'Beaumont Cornish stable'

Big Fella, If I could ask, what do you mean by that ?

Do you mean something along the lines of Phil Edmunds and his involvement with mineing companies that are intrinsically worthless but whose stock price go thru the roof ?

I come in peace from the TRT board. I spend a lot of time researching all the auto industries and I have a vague memory of two companies already doing buses, one fairly large - a quick Google:

SEATTLE (AP) - King County will buy up to 500 articulated buses from New Flyer Industries with most of the buses to be powered by hybrid engines, the county announced Wednesday. The five-year contract could be worth as much as $400 million, General Motors Corp. said in a news release. GM supplies Winnipeg, Manitoba-based New Flyer with the hybrid system for the buses.King County has operated a fleet of 214 GM hybrid-powered buses since 2004.

The Wright buses trialled in London flunked out because the diesels over-heated. There is lots more info on the Web for a better appreciation. I tend to think this is a bottom draw one and perhaps too early to risk serious money in at this stage. I can say this impartially as I have not read to see if the co. has any USP's however I doubt it.

If you wish to scare yourself go to a patent search engine and put in hybrid engines. I think when you see how many firms are playing with it you will get to appreciate that caution us advisable. TRK, and for that matter TRT, have taken ages to get to marketable product status. In tech I am beginning to think the early investor gets the bird ! : )

Whilst I am here I suggest if you wish to be techy in transport TRT is imminently going to look very underpriced. Too much info to bore you with but licensees Honeywell, Lear , Melexis and Michelin 'nuff said.

Just noticed that Traction Technology is one of your favourites.
I see it has risen by 46% following the tip today. These things happen with low caps. What do you feel about this company now at this new level - were you invested?

Of course the other benifits to this type of product is the biodiesel opptions it has, reducing co2 to i believe zero, which has to be a major factor in this type of vehicle. One i am sure the company has thought about ....

I too believe hybrids (well - series hybrids anyway, not parallel hybrids) have a good 15 years before they get wholly replaced by all-electric vehicles outside of towns. But I am not convinced that this particular firm is one of the better placed ones to do well at it. They strike me as a me-too company, hoping to cash in on a good market, but without the background to do as well as some others. I could be totally wrong. Not knocking them, just not persuaded by them.

Decided to buy in this company,i feel hybrid vehicles have very good potential , maybe not another tanfield, but who knows.
The electric motors at the present time have only certain limits regarding the power capacity, although a very good product, hybrid therefore has its market and i feel its only a matter of time with the trials well under way,Now is a very good time to get on board with this promising company.

All coments welcome !!!!
