ukhawk , but Ashley wanted more shares than those he bought from the Hall's whereas ENIC only want Sugar's stake. ENIC now have 66% of the shares and still want to keep the quote so they probably don't want anymore, though they will obviously get some. They have to offer the same price to all shareholders, not because they want to, but because they have to due to Stock Market regulations. Buying Sugar's stake makes ABSOLUTELY NO difference to the possibility of a takeover bid since ENIC already had 54%. So if somebody had bid for Spurs last week, unless they offered a price that would make ENIC sell up, they could never get more than 46% of the shares and ENIC would still be in full control. This action by ENIC makes NO DIFFERENCE to the takeover situation at Spurs. Any potential bidder will need ENIC's approval for a bid to be successful; exactly the same situation as last week. So investors posting on this board that this action rules out any take over bid just don't know what they are talking about.
ps I've checked up and found that when ENIC originally bought out Alan Sugar they had an agreement that they could buy the rest of his share stake at a price of 80p. Obviously ENIC have exercised that option and have worked out a price mutually satisfactory to both sides.

If it's in the News of the World it must be true !!!

Tottenham Hotspur are the subject of a secret £250 million bid from an as yet unnamed American organisation or individual.

The News of the World yesterday revealed that the American's interest had been made known to the current Spurs board including chairman Daniel Levy but that no deal was likely to be done.

The paper claims that any potential takeover at the club could offer the funds to resolve the club's long standing ground development dilemma and also fund a further strengthening of the playing staff to support a bid to break into the top four next season.

The potential investor currently remains a secret but could be revealed in the coming weeks.
