.Berlin Coverage Just Out

Berlin scores 30,000 + Registrations in Good News for City TLDs"

"City domain name rockets out of the starting gate.

The .Berlin top level domain name has quickly racked up over 30,000 domain name registrations according to the latest published zone file.

A lot of domain industry insiders think .city domain names have some of the best potential among new TLDs, and .Berlin's quick start is certainly a positive sign.

Perhaps encouraged by the success of Germany's country code domain name .de, applicants applied for six city and region names in Germany: .Cologne, .Bayern, .Berlin, .Hamburg, .Koeln and .nrw (North Rhine-Westphalia)."

"Two of the .city domain names I'm keeping an eye on are .nyc and .London."

TLD registry is based in Ireland and appears to be a competitor to TLDH. So not really good news is it? Correct me if I'm missing something.

TLD Registry inks deal with Chinese government for over 10,000 domains in each of its new TLDs.

TLD Registry Ltd, which is launching the new top level domain names Dot Chinese Online (.在线) and Dot Chinese Website (.中文网), has inked a deal with the Chinese central government's own registrar for 10,226 domain names in each of the new internationalized TLDs.

The domains include the names of every city in China with populations of over 200,000 people, all 3,000 counties, all provinces, all municipalities, all Special Administrative Regions, and a number of key locations such as mountains.

Usage by these entities could be a big viral marketing benefit to the registry.

TLD Registry notes that China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has made it a requirement that all Chinese government websites to transition to fully-Chinese domain names.

The landrush for these two domain names starts on Thursday, and TLD Registry is holding a launch party with a live and online auction this Thursday and Friday in Macau.

Thanks Smarm. I have sent them an e-mail to clarify it for me. The list has many names which I know TLDH not to have, and yet it suggests they do.

Tinkle - further - .Berlin is relevant because it gives us a clue as to the appetite for geo domain names. 35000 in one day....UnitedDomains selling for e49 per annum.

.berlin will also reflect the economic success over there. Berlin is the 'in ' place for art,too and I am looking forward to seeing how .art does as well.
It is not just about who owns these things but indicative of the success for the sector as a whole imo

Tinklepop, I didn't post any list. The relevance to .Berlin is that TLDH deliberately focused their strategy on the GEO domains, hence being able to be best positioned within that sub sector - Stronger then Google or Amazon.

.Berlin reflects the inherent demand in such Geo names with the obvious link to the Business or Personal locale.

Berlin is small compared to London in size, density of businesses & Brand appeal - we can also expect the demand to translate into the Much larger, non business Population as mentioned.

The Catalyst for price re-rating is happening before the .London launch - as in Now!

So UnitedDomains for pre-reg and ntldstats for live.

What's rare is to be able to buy a share where one can track live sales....!

Just a shame that so many of our tld's don't go live unti 2015.
