I would not worry about raising it, the breeze from the fan will circulate the air. Can you put it in the conservatory overnight and still get beauty sleep?

Thanks Jonners, I have raised it to about 18 inches off the floor on a lounge table and see how it goes, it's not noisy as such but I can't leave it on overnight as need my beauty sleep

Good Morning.

No gates, damp air is just lighter than dryer air. It will rise until it meets colder less dense air which matches the same weight as the damp air. As the damp air cools it will condense into water vapour.

2G, the air will be drawing moisture from your walls, furniture etc. You need to keep using the humidifier when levels rise and may take quite a few days or even a week before levels stay low.

So as it rises, I assume damp air must be warmer

Morning

I didn't know that, maybe I should put the dehumidifier on the kitchen work top, it does pull water from the air but got up this morning and readings are back at 70, it was off overnight

Did you know damp air is lighter than dry air. I was surprised when I learned this as would have thought damp air is heavier. But it make sense when you think about how clouds form - damp air rises and then condenses in the colder air higher up. Water molecules are lighter than the oxygen and nitrogen molecules they displace.
Just some science for you.

I emptied it after three hours and it was about a pint, may need to move it around to establish the best position but its in the hall and my hydrometer in the lounge is saying 58% which is a lot less than last nights readings of over 70%

2 hours and counting, 4 hours to go to the big switch on.
2g goes out for the evening for a hot curry, comes home to find his house nice and bone dry. Only one issue, it has shrunk 30% in size.
