12/8/2024 17:46 | I would not worry about it, I get it happen on the Transits and haven't had one damage an engine yet although can see how if the mass inside all went to one side it would cause an imbalance, yours is just starting to break up, I'm surprised you don't recall the 1976 heatwave as it was about six weeks of heatwave with no rain down here, honestly we were all out in the street dancing in the rain! Rovi may recall? | 2gekko
12/8/2024 16:57 | I have just read that if the pulley starts to clatter then it should be replaced immediately and engine not run. If the cast mass inside it breaks up then serious engine damage can occur and also the chattering can damage the crank shaft by cause it to break. Oopsie!!! I think a lot of people carry on driving with them making a noise as is masked by diesel knock sounds. Mine only made a loud noise when idling with a cold engine and fairly quiet when hot...sometimes no sound. Undoing the crankshaft pulley nut is always fun, done it a few times for the timing belts and is not easy without an impact wrench. I do not really remember the heatwave of 1976 as a heat wave. Maybe it did not affect Scotland too much. | jonjonck
12/8/2024 14:59 | I knew brakes would be mentioned lol, a few jobs to do then but not too bad really considering the miles you do, I have similar weather to rovi and no sign of rain, I remember the heat wave in 1976 when it finally rained we all went and stood outside and enjoyed getting soaked | 2gekko
12/8/2024 10:11 | Enjoy your day off 2G. Hope the rain stays off for you. | jonjonck
12/8/2024 10:09 | I had a couple of failures in the motorhome on holiday. The water pump for the habitation water valves failed. Could not get the valve seals so had to buy a complete pump at £100 approx. I thought it was expensive but turns out it was not a bad price at all. The other fail is the engine crankshaft harmonic damper pulley. Started making a loud rattling sound which was worrying at first but as it did not get any worse just lived with it. I have a new one to fit but did not have it with me. The good news is this year the brakes performed well and did not warp any brake discs going over mountain passes. The wheel hub caps I painted did fine except the front ones when coming down a mountain got so hot the paint softened as not fully hardened and the brake dust has all stuck to it. It has hardened now with all the heat!!! | jonjonck

11/8/2024 17:09 | Hi Gekko, I have been absolutely shattered today. Mrs J is the same. So much to catch up on and get done. It had been a good holiday though and whilst the weather was very mixed and way too hot in the Afternoons we survived. One highlight was meeting up with some dear friends in Kamnik by pure chance. They had been on the site two nights before we bumped into them and persuaded them to stay an extra night and show them the town and go for a cycle ride. Had a brilliant day and introduced them to the cafe with blueberry cake and they loved their day with us as we did with them... they also loved the cake as well. Another highlight was in Bad Tolz watching the kids, 5 to 10 years olds, practicing and training for Ice Hockey. All fully kitted out and just a joy to watch them and how much fun they were all having. ..... more later and will need to sort out some pictures. | jonjonck

31/7/2024 10:38 | As it was really hot a little old man shuffled slowly into an ice cream parlor and pulled himself slowly, painfully, up onto a stool... After catching his breath, he ordered a banana split. The waitress asked kindly, 'Crushed nuts?' 'No,' he replied, 'Arthritis.' | rovi70
