is it fair to presume that the annual dividend will be reduced by the same factor as the share count? 15 for every 19 or -21%.

Shore Capital backs ‘cash compounder’ Tesco

Strategic change at ‘defensive’ Tesco (TSCO) will see the company continue to be a cash compounder, says broker Shore Capital.

Analyst Clive Black reiterated his ‘buy’ recommendation on the supermarket after it emerged from a difficult year ‘in good shape’, with its performance during the pandemic and the sale of its Asian business marking it out as ‘an industry leader’.

Black said he was expecting ‘initial strategic continuity’ between the regimes of Ken Murphy, who formerly took over as chief executive in October, and his predecessor Dave Lewis.

‘However, while the strategy may evolve over time, we expect the fundamentals to remain centred on a capital-disciplined cash compounder, focusing upon free cashflow generation and returns to fund a progressive dividend policy and share buy-back programme,’ he said.

The shares closed up 0.6%, or 1.4p, at 225p on Tuesday.

It's 'horses for courses'.

The important thing is Tesco is much more competitive as we go into this recession.

The other important thing is Tesco now carries much less debt.

The Thai business had growth and a good margin however Tesco got a good price.

One of the other problems with TESCO and the other big 4 as well is customers have found out they dont need shop in store with more than half a dozen tins of beans or other products with mass brands which take up peoples time going down long isles.

Aldi and ldli compare cheap labels against branded labels in big four so give it a rest."

ALID and LIDL have premium product like carrot cake who beat MARKS "finest" brand on price and undercut them significanly.

Tesco Lotus in Thailand was truly brilliant. Much different to ere. A pity they sold that really. Had massive potential, just as locals were starting to love it more than their usual 7-11 too

My nearest Aldi is forty nine miles away, Tesco two miles, stuff Aldi and their German propaganda.

Tesco has price matched them for months on the real comparisons.

Aldi's dishonesty is on apar with VW's vehicle emissions tests.

Amazing how it has gone from empty car parks (people without cars going there), to suddenly seeing the mercs and porches
