Popped a long for my usual Monday morning shop at Tesco.

Surprised to see no queue just a member of Tesco staff at the store entrance asking shoppers to keep their distance from other shoppers however the 2m rule is no longer officially in place.

Also all the self check outs were open, when before only every other one was open.

However Tesco still have their one way system in place plus still only allowing one shopper per family to enter.

Popped a long to see whether my barbers was open, great it was. However the lady assistant who normally cuts my hair wasn't their. The owner said that she is earning more money on furlough so would not be coming back in to work until her furlough payments stop.

The strangest thing was having to give the barber my name, address and telephone number which he had to write down in a note pad - just in case for contact tracing.

Thanks Rik. Don't know why I couldn't find it but yes the same day as the AGM. 26th June. Maybe we'll get an update on the Thai sale as well then, though that is dependant on the monopoly board, so probably not.

Shrinkflation is already here yf

Food shortages to come especially in meat (hence prices will rise considerably)

Plenty of lines not economical so will be binned.

Tesco had a planning application granted for the site DeanForester but it was challenged in the courts by the Co-op on points of planning law and they had to do it all again......twice, cost the local council a huge amount in legal fees

Tesco dropped out when their financial scandal forced them to change their expansion plans.

Lidl and Aldi both tried to buy the site, Lidl won and got permission to go ahead, the Co-op finally gave up the challenges and now have Lidl to contend with right next door.

Aldi have an application in for a site on the corner of Tufthorn Avenue where it joins the main Coleford to Chepstow road.

Most of the shops you remember are gone, when I bought the village shop at Clearwell back in 1965 the main competition was Williams & Cotton and Downhams who ran a mobile around the Forest, there were eleven other shops like mine in the locality.

Half-term, back to shopping at my local convenience store.

Popped a long to Tesco, 150yd queue out side - can tell it's half term.

For the past month, half the time there's been no queue outside my local Tesco while the other half maybe 8 waiting to get in at the most.

It's along time since Coleford just had Pont & Adams and Williams & Cotton. Did Tesco ever build on that site? It's a few years since I was there last, and I recall a store in the old station yard.

Lidl are going to overdo it, we have two within six miles of each other and they're building a third within the same radius, it must steal sales from the two existing ones that people are currently travelling to.

The one they're near completing is on a site that Tesco abandoned and it's so close to the long established Co-op that it's almost touching.

It's in Coleford Glos. a small town that already has more than enough shops, furthermore Aldi have a planning application in for a site less than a quarter of a mile away.

This is where Lidl want to open new supermarkets in the UK

According to details published on Lidl's website, bosses at the supermarket say they are looking to 'double their portfolio', with for freehold, leasehold or long leasehold opportunities sought in a large number of places nationwide.

One of the best defensive plays is this one

Markets will sink again and this will go up or stay stable, some nasty things are just round the corner imo

Scotch beef disappears from Tesco shelves amid Covid-19 crisis

While Aldi and LIDL kept the percentage of Scotch beef and lamb in their range at 100% from November 2019 to May 2020, other supermarkets saw a reduction during the initial months of the coronavirus pandemic.
