03/3/2018 13:29 | Just reading the public notices in the local rag, there are applications to extend the booze licensing hours to from 6am to 11pm in three of the smaller Tesco stores. I wonder if that's being done countrywide. | vaneric1
03/3/2018 11:37 | Since stopping free so called single use plastic bags when I do my supermarket shop my use of plastic bags has increased by 10%. In the past, I used to use the plastic bags from my supermarket shop for bin bags, one a day, now I have to buy the same number of bin bags as I use to get free from the supermarket, 30 per month. These so called bags for life tend to last me around 1 month, I use 3 each time I shop which means I need to replace the 3 every month which means in total I am now using 33 plastic bags per month instead of the 30 I use to. It therefore seems to me the supermarkets being in favour of stopping using the so called single use plastic bags was to save them money and good PR rather then really being in favour of the environment. Now plastic straws are under attack. As kids, we love our straws when drinking. My son takes all his straws home and many hours of enjoyment, uses them to make mosaics. If plastic straws are stopped, then again I'll need to go out and buy something equivalent so my son can keep enjoying and having fun making his mosaics which will most probably be less environmentally friendly than the plastic straws he is already using. | loganair

02/3/2018 16:56 | buywell , what is the percentage of online sales in retail(Supermarkets) compared to total retail sales both here in the UK and the USA. Having that knowledge the 80% figure actually tells me something, otherwise it doesn't. if its 80% of something over 10% and growing faster than the curve from Aldi Lidle then yep there is reason for concern 5 years out. If it is sub 5% .... I don't see the relevance - Other market factors have more influence. | 1carus

Walmart dropped over 10% in one day recently as Amazon is taking their market Circa 80% of all on-line retail purchases in the USA are now done by one company Guess who ? 01/3/2018 11:44 | It’s the other way round buywell, Amazon is proving big is best, over the next decade a select group of global companies will begin to dominate the markets, it’s inevitable IMO look at Comcast & sky, Shell & BG, look at the car industry, film industry, at least this merger gives both companies & shareholders a bigger footprint & more options GLA | mercer95

28/2/2018 15:02 | As I stated in 21538 earlier today, new RNS confirms it's "all go": Tesco and Booker merger approved by shareholders Further to Tesco PLC's earlier announcement confirming the approval of the merger with Booker Group plc by Tesco shareholders, Tesco is pleased to note that Booker shareholders have also voted in favour of the merger. The combined business is expected to start operating on 5 March 2018. Commenting on today's votes by shareholders, Dave Lewis, Group Chief Executive of Tesco, said: "I'm delighted that the shareholders of both companies have supported the merger. This merger is about growth, bringing together our complementary retail and wholesale skills to create the UK's leading food business. This opens up new opportunities to provide food wherever it is prepared or eaten - 'in home' or 'out of home' - and will benefit our customers, suppliers, colleagues and shareholders." | grahamburn
