A lot of good comes out of America but a lot of evil does too. This shyster culture is some of the worst of it.

Is the hope that Tesco will offer a settlement
====================================================

That's exactly it graham, not because of the bad publicity but because of their own lawyers making a packet out of mounting a defence.

But that's what's so hard to understand, vaneric - they won't get paid if they've taken the thing on on a contingency fee basis. And if the claimants have managed to get one of these vile legal funders on board - what does the funder think it's playing at?

Is the hope that Tesco will offer a settlement to avoid bad PR? I hope they resist it tooth and nail, all the way.

It's really only about lawyers seeing pound signs, win or lose they'll get paid.

All seems fair.Workers in warehouse get abit more since they would need to wrap up and it is much cooler temps etcFilling shelves inside shopfloor paid less. Both differ greatly.

Yes, this equal pay case is utter and total nonsense and why it's even being reported in the mainstream news just shows what a pathetic state this country is now in.

For people who are unaware of how corporate pay works, basically each role comes with a salary guide and pay bands, this is based upon the job, length of service and experience in a role, there is absolutely NOTHING which can discriminate against gender. So in real terms if a woman was working in a store in a position deemed as paying £8 per hour, there is absolutely nothing stopping that woman applying for a position in a depot where the role pays £11 per hour and of course vice versa.

So, in a nutshell it's the role which dictates the salary and not the individual.........

I’m waiting for the wave of sellers to come back into the market once they realise the sell off has passed, Tesco will move up FAST, a lot of the hedge, institutional funds & PI’s rushing to get back in,I’m definitely holding. GLA

Exactly graham

There is nothing to stop them applying for the warehouse jobs.

A company should be able to pay what ever it sees appropriate for different jobs as long as its above the minimum wage.

Just out of interest Bones how many times a day do you actually pass your local Tesco? Are passing every couple of minutes. Have you given up your 'bus spotting' for 'Tesco shopper spotting' bye any chance? It would be such a shame if you had....

Women are at it again ;-)

Companies must be terrified to employ women, even more these days

They seem to have more rights than men in many ways

Fair play to them, but aren't they shooting themselves in the foot some what ?

Tesco being taken to court for equal pay could cost them 4bn . Shopping numbers falling which will come out in the next 6 to 9 months and the inevitable profit warning . This share is on its way down just like last time they tried ripping people off hiking up prices . I will laugh when it happens because my local Tesco looks almost empty every time I go past it . Sales will slump as the figures filter though the books . 120 p target price for me .

What with Alison Horner on the books here too after carillons complete failure it isn't looking too good here anymore . So much for the rampers talking garbage .

"Tesco equal pay claim could cost supermarket up to £4bn"

Tesco is facing a demand for up to £4bn in back pay from thousands of mainly female shopworkers in what could become the UK’s largest ever equal pay claim.

A law firm has launched legal action on behalf of nearly 100 shop assistants who say they earn as much as £3 an hour less than male warehouse workers in similar roles. Up to 200,000 shopfloor staff could be affected by the claim, which could cost Tesco up to £20,000 per worker in back pay over at least six years.

I do hope that the rest of TESCO's Main Board are more competent than Alison Horner
who only has total responsibility for ALL of the Tesco personnel as Group People Officer... If the Tesco People are managed in the same way as Alison Horner used her expert advice as a Non Exec of Carillion and her expert advice in signing off the rediculous Pay Awards to the Directors of Carillion then we should all be very worried people... Why she has not been showed the door this afternoon after a pityful and dreadful performance in front of todays Select Committee is beoyond me.. The Guardian has summarised her Q & A below ... Total Incompetence and look at the result with Carillion..

Reeves asked Horner if she felt OK about having recommended massive pay rises and bonuses for members of the board when the company apparently resembled a giant Ponzi scheme, taking on unprofitable new contracts to pay for failing ones, for so long. “So …” said Horner. She began every sentence with a so.

So, it was like this. So, no one got a job on an executive remuneration committee by recommending bosses took pay cuts. So, it took people of unusual abilities to run a business so badly and they needed to be rewarded appropriately. So, yes she had been happy to sign off on anything that was put in front of her.
