22/9/2014 19:27 | Bath financial business Novia in link with Tavistock Investment 15-September-2014 by Bath Chronicle A Bath-based financial giant has announced a new partnership to help improve the services it offers customers. Novia Financial has announced that it has entered a new commercial partnership with Tavistock Investments. Novia, which specialises in wrap platforms, already works with a number of independent financial advisers including Tavistock and a significant proportion of Tavistock's clients' assets are currently managed by Novia. Novia's chief executive Bill Vasilieff said changes to the industry since the Retail Distribution Review (RDR), which put more emphasis on professional standards and introduced a minimum level of qualification for all investment advisers. He said: "The trend for the consolidation of IFA firms has accelerated post RDR. "We like the Tavistock proposition for advisers and anticipate making an excellent return from our stake in the business. "The deal adds real value to Novia supporting advisers by obtaining a very attractive retirement option for them, one with preferential terms to those otherwise available. "However, the end client will be the real beneficiary, protected from a potential advice gap, by assured continuity of advice in the event that their adviser retires from the market." Under the terms of the agreement, Tavistock Wealth has endorsed Novia as a preferred platform and Novia will introduce advisers to Tavistock on a selective basis. | guycep

18/6/2014 16:57 | The aim of the Company is to acquire credible capacity in this area as cost effectively as possible and thereafter to increase the volume of business (the level of funds under management) by providing the services described above to the rest of the enlarged group on a more effective and cost efficient basis than that offered by independent third parties. Would it not be logical after "providing the services described above to the rest of the enlarged group on a more effective and cost efficient basis than that offered by independent third parties" they would have a lot more financial clout to bargain with the large institutions(ie the providers). The concept seems plausible, when the likes of Tesco ,Sainsbury's etc have a controlling clout with the farmers after swallowing up the smaller high street shops, so the model is there. | anthony81
18/6/2014 16:42 | "stanleykirk" wrote a comment on that article from the FT Advisor. What this person wrote is below, furthermore it seems to give an insightful illustration by comparing the finance services to the supermarkets when they first arrived. "captured the customers from thousands of corner shops ".However ,what I find even more interesting is the comment "told the manufacturers how much they were prepared to pay" -Supermarket chains have that controlling power today, I wonder if Tavistock investments will have increased control in the finance sector? "I suspect that it has much more to do with the huge value disparity between manufacturing (ie the providers) and distribution (ie advisers). In no other industry is distribution valued at such a low price. The analogy is often drawn with groceries where, 50 years ago, there was a similar disparity, before supermarkets came along and captured the customers from thousands of corner shops and told the manufacturers how much they were prepared to pay. Technology, particularly platforms, now makes the same possible in controlling the investment requirements of thousands of small customers." | anthony81 |
