this has become oh so normal for tandem. what is it now? 5 years of static turnover and 5 years of static profits? this board have continually failed to deliver growth. I though jam tomorrow was the sole domain of technology companies. but i suppose if someone was looking to acquire say a 22% stake now would be a good time after all the directors would have restrictive covenants so would be hobbled for at least 12 months. maybe gg is thinking just that.

The usual curate's egg of a trading statement isued today by Tandem -- good in parts, bad in parts. But only a company with "Micky Mouse" investor relations would choose to release a TS at 2pm that is not a profits warning!!! Why not spend all of £50 to issue an advisory of a future announcement to be made at 7am to show it trying to be a company with "normal" investor relations. They say PBT for y/e ending Jan 2011 is expected to be marginally better than last year on slightly reduced revenues. Marketing developments to get some growth into Tandem's revenues still look limited and laboured -- bicycles on resurrecting heritage names so as to, at best, preserve sales at previous levels when others have grown their sales and ranges in a fast growing market over the last 5 years; toys on attending the Toy Fair for the first time in 11 years -- whoppee!!. The licencing agreement for 2012 Olympics does look to be good news if not exclusive- though Tandem will no doubt choose to find it difficult and challenging to do!!! The UK consumer sector for 2011 does look difficult and challenging even for a company with more enthusiasm than the perennially downbeat writer of Tandem statements. Other distributors, such as Character (CCT), look to have more going for them IMO as a business but maybe Greengiant (Andrew) can create some excitement through the large shareholding he has built up.

The movement in the US$ is going to be hugely beneficial to the company. Jeffian, agreed about Bob Morton and Mr Mellon. Don't know about Andrew Burgess but he has been around these threads for years

What, Lord Mellon of Speymill? Is that supposed to be a good thing? Beware rich men taking significant holdings; their interests do not always coincide with other shareholders' in my experience. Besides the aforementioned Speymill, the greatest destructions of shareholder value I have experienced have been any company involving 'serial entrepreneur' Bob Morton, and cases involving the Reuben Brothers and Peter Gyllenhammar.

Tiger, gg is Andrew Burgess. Basically he wanted a seat on the board, he is a very experienced finance professional who has made an awful lot of money. This company does have potential and like I said earlier the toy show at Olympia was fantastic and mv stand was brilliant. Basically Andrew has run out of patience with this management team and is looking at various options including selling his stake to competitors. His basic principle is that if the current bod cannot add value then the welfare of the employees is better placed with a company that can grow the business. historically he has been very relaxed on salaries but not on paying for standing still which is what the company has done. the other options he is pursuing is calling an egm to get appointed to the board and to make several board changes but he has given the board time to think about this. Is there value here? yes but only if the board start to deliver whic they have not yet done

I assume G/G has the 22% stake. Anyone have a contact e mail as i am serious about having a go here. I have a fellow investor that has 1.25% as well. I am asking Jim (mellon) to have a look at this and he may be interested in Andrews stake. Can someone give me a quick history on how and why we have failed to get the biggest holder a seat on the BOD? Thanks Tiger

I WAS THE BUYER YESTERDAY at just over 1.46. I see value still here and have added to my stake bought at 60p. I have 2% now and will add all the way to 3%. Yesterday was M/M well just 1 marking it down following a largish sell. i am a value investor and still see 14/15p eps in current year so a p/e of 10 looks ok. Who is G/G and whats the position. thanks Tiger

it really is unforgivable that the company cannot release a trading statement. They have now entered a closed period so if anything in terms of corporate action were to happen then now would be the time.

grahamty how hard is it for the company to issue a trading statement? The question remains is the seller finished. If not then this is going to fall back an awful lot. It just shows though that the market obviously have no faith in the management and the share price only went up due to Andrew buying so many.

There it is, a late reported seller of 33,000 at 144p. Intersting that when 156p bid in 5000, the bid in that size was so low........anyhow, hope that is gone away now. 20,000 of it was placed at 146p

well if it is gg then it is going to be a slow and painfull fall back into double figures because this management dont seem to have done much to enhance shareholder value.

What the Hell?????? Spoke to gg last night and he basically told me that he has given himself 2 weeks to find a buyer of his shares, in the meantime he continues to talk with other companies and individuals. I didnt really ask him his plans because I dont think it is fair but he did say that at the moment he has no intention of adding anymore shares. As far as the company is concerned I can see the US$ helping but be wary of the increasing cost of raw materials. It is not surprising that this has fallen although I wouldnt expect 7% in one day. The company have offered no insight into how trading has gone and fails to grow this business. I am in two minds as whether to continue to hold. The only reason I havent sold is because I want to support gg if he wants to make any management changes

or it could be the market getting wind of the current trading which i have constantly reported that it cannot have been very good. This is a company that has a whole host of excuses readily available for its poor performance but really the question has to be whether or not management is actually good enough to be in charge. people have said to me that this is a relationship business and that if one or two people leave then the business would experience problems. ask yourself though if they are that good and indespensable then why are they performing so poorly? effortless cool gg is taking some time away. he is looking to offload his shares if he cannot do this then he is planning to make some changes to the company. i think his patience has run out with the constant excuses.

I have bought 5000 at 147p and thought that might soak up the stock. As there is another 10000 on offer at 164p, must be a seller of 20,000 plus
