Plusnet and bt are separate companies. They just share the same owner. It's like saying Cunard and Costa are the same company because carnival owns them both.

Agreed it is bizarre when you see how differently they are ranked by customers and price - but I guess its another soap powder style brand for BT.

However we investors - should know who owns who.

I don't think Plusnet/BT do much to advertise the fact, they'd rather let the general public assume they're separate companies.

No internet service since 2.20pm today, throughout UK. I have TT fibre x 2 and VOIP. My business is stumped, relying on TT service. Must be on the National News by now.

The, tersely worded, reason given in today’s Times (hard copy) for yesterday’s big fall was “Weak sterling sparks concerns over dividend”

Which makes little sense to me as sterling seems to be firming up if anything.

I am glad i held off buying st 150.. Just holding off buying whilst i see where price settles..my last batch was at 179..not exactly great have seen it rise to 220 and then drop like a stone. For me i dont hold enough to worry. But charles dunstone has experienced this before with carphone. And ttg after 2008. Patience wins.. Theres nothing wrong with the management or the company.. Yeh plusnet and sky are now having a big impact however wont be long before some one like sky takes talktalk..just like talktalk bought out the little fish like tiscali, aol, onetel etc.Maybe who knows talk might buy an org like plusnet or merge with them to make a bigger competitor for bt.

JOE - I got in quite late to this party of demise.
Shorttracker has less than most stocks on this. On balance volume, stop loss hunting. No brainer here. Target way north of here.

If the yield remains secure then these are worth a punt on income alone.

Well Martin Hughes is a smart cookie and Toscafund have added 8m shares over the past few months to up their stake to just over 5%.

I think you have to ask yourself the question about whether you would buy these if you didn't already hold. Asked myself this last week and based on the trading statement and analyst forecasts I could see nothing in these to attract me to buy, so I offloaded at a relatively small loss. Additionally, they seem to have almost stopped marketing for mobile only deals, so you have to question what the value of this business will be when they come to sell it on. To be honest, I was a bit slow to react by holding for an extra day or so beyond the statement and this cost me making a small profit. Best to be mechanical about these decisions and not to hang in there under some form of misguided loyalty or to be a rabbit in the headlights.

Yes, yesterday's knife-catching hasn't worked out well so far! That rsi chart in the header looks like it has reached approximately zero...

I'm thinking about buying more, although it would be nice to see it level out a bit first perhaps.

Spent 50minutes on the phone to talktalk today - my internet speed is very slow - initially tried to get an uptodate router as mine is old(5-yrs) passed to their technical dept. who will 'make some fine' tuning - then asked to keep track of 'it' for ten days to see if any changes! TalkTalk has an advert that claims people have a 'super router' - no they don't. My contract ends in December and will not be renewing unless there is some improvement - I have a small number of TalkTalk shares but am considering selling them at a loss - I now realise how much work they need to do not only to attract new customers but retain old ones.

Mktommo,

It happens to most of us now and then, anyone who says it doesn't probably isn't telling the truth.

I don't hold TALK at the moment however I did buy last year in the £1.90's and it was a bumpy ride before making a small profit plus the dividend, at times I was 20 - 25% down.

What's putting me off buying back in is the debt pile plus the sector is so out of favour at the moment, the latter could make it a good buy though.

Gosh I'm having a bad run at the moment. The results weren't good but I didn't think they were THAT bad! I bought in at 195p just before the results so clearly gutted. It's fallen away quite a bit further today, which I wasn't expecting, but can't see anything beyond sentiment after the results? I just hope it bottoms out at 150p which it has before and then slowly rises back and I'll put it down to experience......

It's starting to look awful.
OK so they are growing customers - but anyone can grow a customer base by giving stuff away.
There has to be profit at the end of it.

If they generate serious growth and reduce fixed costs at the same time then profit will follow.
How long will this take and are we hearing anything about reducing the cost base?

Another strategy may be to win so many customers - despite profitability that the competition realises they are reducing margins across the whole market.

That might leave no alternative but for a competitor to buy them to consolidate and restore profitability

Couldn't really make up my mind about the results at first read. Looked like a mixed bag. See what the market thinks. Are the signs of growth more significant than the poor financials?
