So went direct to the source, Poftie you are correct, this is the response I got. "In respect to IP for d2w, we have registered trade marks, but the product itself is not patented. There is prior art preventing this BUT the key here is the particluar formulae that we use, 10 years+ of product credentials, and the brand itself, which is seen as the world leader in OXO technology" So the company seem positive enough but no IP but potentially a USP in established, proven, respected and eco accredited.

Whatever anyone says, SYM have no degradable IP and, much more important, is that the technology is well known and in the public domain. In the unlikely event that it ever took off (and its been on the runway for over 15 years) it would be easy for anyone to copy it.

Unsure whether Mattjos is LOLing at you, hat, for your scanty pre-purchase research or at me for claiming SYM have no patents & SYM own no IP. Perhaps he'll clarify.

hatfullofsky 28 Oct '17 - 16:26 - 5103 of 5105 New investor here, great update, stubborn share price - 1.75m buys from 10am did not shift it. Q for the more knowledgeable, I see they have registered trade marks and the ECO accreditation but do the have any significant IP ? hat, Wouldn't that be a question best addressed BEFORE becoming a new investor here?

Legislation has changed and will hopefully be adopted elsewhere.BTW the term compostable is incorrect bio-degradable is the term. Subtle but significant difference.

I have seen this company around at investor exhibitions for something like 10 years, and whilst always thinking that a compostable plastic was essential to modern society, could not understand why noone was using it. There seemed to be an insurmountable obstacle to getting the sales appropriate to a company who could rid the world economically of spent plastic bags. I even followed Biome, a spin off from Stanelco, which attempted to develop plastics based on starch, but they failed in that respect. Is it just that plastic processors and retailers are obdurate at introducing a tiny increase in costs? Now that the UK Government has forced them to charge 5p for a bag, that obstacle must have disappeared. Are there still impediments to the necessary take up, and what are they still? Their time may now have come , but why ? What has changed?

After dithering for ages today I joined the party. Big question is when does the UK start taking it seriously?

Thanks Mattjos. Finished researching SYM and like potential here very much. Feels like Saudi Arabia has been the catalyst that has driven growth and hence the ahead trading update, it will be interesting to watch developments and news of other countries that adopt their technology. If the technology is adopted by other countries then there will be one of two outcomes here, SYM will become a much larger company or they will be taken over before that is allowed to happen.

Highest Daily Volume since Jan 16th 2013. - Trading ahead with good cash creating and ID in place to fund the growth. - Balance Sheet sorted in readiness for the start of dividend payments. - Largest corporate shareholder has been a recent buyer - Directors have all been squirelling their shares into ISA's a few months before this recent news flow. Let's see now if we can go on to crack the 17.5p & then the 21p level in the weeks ahead. Any continuing sales growth will quickly drop through to the bottom line as most of the cost base is fixed & covered by sales at lower level than now being reported. What's not to like?

Plenty of legs in this over the coming 12 months I would suggest. The Directors have been stuffing their shares into their ISA's & Somerston have gone to over 19% now. The presence of Somerston on the Board also sees the transformation of this from what was previously seen as a lifestyle business to a 'proper' business. They have an excellent brand now and good visibility in a very topical sector. The Sales should start to snowball from here, imo Hi interceptor. Welcome aboard .. has been a long wait but, have been adding to my long term core holding over last 6 months

This looks an interesting play. Mcap 19 million pre tax profits up to a minimum of 350k this year from 123k (over 100%). It's on a punchy valuation of 54 (mcap to pre tax profit) but is a fast growing niche business. Looking to add here when the opportunity strikes?

Well done SYM ... the figures here very clearly demonstrate how the operational gearing of the business is quickly translated into strengthening Balance Sheet. We've got a good sized pipeline (distribution network) through which to flow our product range. Won't take much more in terms of product range development to really get this business motoring

Bought in here this morning. Have watched SYM for a long time and was almost tempted by the last interim result, todays update was too strong to ignore and will almost half the PE ratio. Very refreshing to see a company include actual figures in a trading update. Must finish my research here. Hi Mattjos, haven't had a shared investment for a number of years.......

Good update here. It is becoming much better known that plastics treated with d2w oxo-biodegradable technology will go a long way towards reducing the issue of plastic waste on land and in the oceans." The technology here, can it replace a whole plastic product or part of it?

In April 2017 SET announced that they were awarded the Saudi Arabia Standards Organisation(SASO)quality mark for their "d2w range." Wells Plastics have announced that their "Reverte range" has also been awarded the SASO quality mark. Should be interesting. Mattjos let's hope happy days ahead, however imho you will have a long time to wait.
