Been watching this for years like most disenchanted by the continued optimistic hot air..turning into nothing...however this might be on the cusp of major orders.

Houndddog10 interesting post, I am sceptical due to the fact majority is all assumptions. The most important note is your last sentance....."to get over their carefully nurtured reputation, honed over many years, of failing to deliver on promises" this board has not delivered, sack the chairman, vice chairman and put the CEO on notice that he will be rewarded on results and not jam tomorrow as has been the case in the past. I trust your assumptions are correct......time will tell

I am quite optimistic about SYM now. I think even on d2w they have got some good traction - seemingly in about 15 countries (but legislation in most of these countries has been very recent so assumption must be revenue is At early stages). I have never had much hope it will come quickly to Europe or the U.S. However, as Mattjos points out it is their other projects on esp anti-microbial (roughly three for anti microbial I think) that look interesting because they are working with some very large companies which could bring revenues that are big for a small company. If just one of these projects has partial success it will make a big difference to profits. Laurier in his presentation indicates that they are not expecting the odd million revenue from these projects but much more than that. However, even the odd million would be very welcome. There are quite a number of interesting comments in the Laurier presentation eg UAE accounts for 20% of revenue and that was when only one product had to be degradable and now c15 are mandated. Personally I am expecting good second half results.

However, they will need to get over their carefully nurtured reputation, honed over many years, of failing to deliver on promises. It will need actual results.

Used to hold a lot of these, but heard "jam tomorrow" once too often. That, plus the business of the high loan interest being paid out repeatedly.
That aside, I am actually a d2w user ( carrier bags ) and have been for a few years.
The bags do indeed disintegrate after a while ( as some regular customers inform me )
They say they've gone to retrieve something stored in a bag, only to find what looks like visit from mice - just shards of plastic. Still, that's the object of the exercise, and outside in the wild that's exactly the result you would wish for.
Whether I'd ever buy back into SYM would depend on whether the management visibly improves.

Still available for under 10p ... Anything to stop Somerston from mopping up the loose below their buy-in price or, a n other director deciding to increase at this level?

Flakes. In a bag of bags we keep in the utility, some randomly turn out to be Oxo degradable types. When, eventually, you have a tidy up, you get millions of little flakes flying around. Have to get the vac out to clean up.

They turn into flakes and is quite messy - so not ideal. But then what is the alternative - they have to disintegrate somehow? The competitor bio based plastics will only degrade in specialist facilities - so don't work if discarded in the environment. SYM are right on this - making plastic degradable is a response to the litter problem not to using oil in making plastic.

I guess they turn into flakes, heeley? Or do they liquefy? What kind of a mess?

The website says they degrade in the same way as a leaf, which I presume means given enough time they would vanish completely, without leaving the potentially toxic microplastic particles left by conventional disposable plastics.

It will take quite a bit longer than 3 months. The ones in the bottom of my bag pile seem to take well over a year. Right mess they make when do go too.

Interesting articles, thanks.

All I can say is whatever people might think of Laurier as a chairman, he echoes my sentiments exactly with regard to conventional plastic waste. It doesn't just pollute the oceans but almost everywhere you look these days.. roadside verges, hedgerows, rivers, beaches, high streets, back streets. And the attitude of the regular plastics industry and most politicians to the problem.. i.e. pretty much turning a blind eye, is a disgrace imo.

Having said that, the one oxo-biodegradable bag I own shows no sign of disintegrating. It's been in a dark cupboard for about 3 months now and seems to be as strong as ever. Does it need light in order to degrade?

I sold out of SYM a few months back, but might buy a few back on Monday. Not just because I believe in the product, but because to me it seems like a good entry point on the chart.. share price pulling back to a rising LTMA.. potential golden cross if it can hold above 9p for the next few weeks.

thank you 40plus ... whatever some may think about Laurier personally, there is no denying his ability to speak far more fluently, persuasively & passionately than most CEO's of AIM listed companies (its painful listening to most of them stumbling their way through presentations).
I thought this was a very good presentation. Much more comprehensive than a standard 'elevator pitch'. The R&D spend hilited several times which is what i wanted to hear. Two good corporate investors on the books now. wont be long before we see II's take an interest, imo. Need the market cap to stay above £10m

I have always thought that as Laurier moves towards exit he is going to be more interested in getting the value of his shares up v taking salary. This might account for the long overdue rationalisation last year. A quick win indeed would be to rationalise BOD pay and positions. Saving £300k per year would make a big difference to profitability and the share price - and probably be enough to keep SYM, everything else more or less being equal, consistently in profit.

Whilst the ATM in the boardroom has cash in it I cannot see Laurier leaving. I would throw out the useless chairman and his even more useless co-chairman who at 72 is beyond his sell by date. Getting rid of them would save circa £200k. Bbd2 why don't you apply for the Chairmanship and maybe have Neilrr as your vice chairman?
