Lots of platinum, iridium, and ruthenium used in the hydrogen cycle as catalysts. (Not rhodium, though).
Widespread adoption of hydrogen as a fuel is the bull case for PGMs.
I sometimes think about buying a few ounces of iridium metal and locking it away for a few years in the hope of a massive bull market in what is an incredibly rare metal with unique catalytic properties.

Platinum used in Fuel Cells though and they tend to replace dirty diesels so they are going to give a bigger benefit to the environment than replacing petrol powered cars. JM Whitepaper:

I agree RabidDog, but I don't think that fossil fuels will power the new ICEs. Look at JCB's success in powering their fleet with hydrogen...

I think it’s more likely that EV take up will slip. You are already seeing manufacturers pivoting towards hybrid to tick their eco boxes. The ICE will be around longer in volume than people think.

@RCTurner2 - I could agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

I will agree that 20p is ALSO a support level, but only if the 40p level is broken.

Strength and support is emerging today so far though.

Hi RC, is that your short target or your buy target or both or neither? Cheers

That is ridiculous when net cash currently constitutes circa 65p per share, an EV of just £35m plus projected sales of £100m in the current FY 2024/25.

40p is not a support. 20p might be

I'm not dismissing it and fully agree it's very important.Willing to wager, however, if the platinum price recovers and the chrome price remains high so that our next results are much more positive it will be the finances in first place in the statement.

husbod - she'll change the rules though so you can't offset losses against gains....anything is possible with this shambles in charge

For industrial companies, the reporting of an accident free period is important for their reputation and integrity.People working outside of industry often don't understand the importance, scope, or consequences of safety and often have very limited understanding of safety culture. (And no we're not talking about correct posture on your office chair or taking finger breaks so you don't get rsi's from typing.)It IS important, as poor safety can be fatal for a company, it ruins your reputation, loses you business, and can result in massive legal repercussions.Think before you dismiss this type of information.Their record here is pretty remarkable.

I must say I'm with crunchies on the priorities in the final results statement.I was reading it and thinking this health and safety thing is all very interesting but what about the finances.I don't think it has any great significance other than that was just about the only positive thing the company could say given the depressed platinum price over the year.Might top up again just for the "reduced" income. At least Reeves can't tax a capital loss.

Yet another FTSE stock now trading well below book value with a large net cash position and growth to come.
Could even be taken out, who knows. Market cap is super low now, peanuts for some.

CC! Lots of mining companies do it that way now - quite literally they put safety first. I find it a bit odd, but I roll with it.

That's not my point at all it's the opening highlight before the financials usually you mention that AFTER the financial data. These are actually financial results they're reporting. When you see it presented that way it's a red light

The chart suggests that 40p is a long term support level, my instinct is that this is the bottom, barring any bad news that isn't already in the share price

I've been on a long "sabbatical" from SLP so I can't speak for that.
The only question that matters is whether today is the right price at which to sell, hold, or buy.
It's clearly a ridiculous price at which to sell. Barring Armageddon, this is the bottom or near it.
So the question is, is it a "wait and see", or a "buy".

The same argument has been made for the last 3 years all the while the share price has stunk out the place. The idea is to buy shares where the price rises.

Denial of what?
If you think the platinum group metals slump will continue indefinitely, then fair enough, don't invest here.
E.g. I think the diamond market has been changed permanently by the proliferation of man-made stones, so I avoid diamond stocks for exactly that reason.
Otherwise, SLP is a well-run low-cost reliable cash-rich producer of PGMs, with a heavy basket weighting towards rhodium. And my best guess is that rhodium will be the first metal to indicate that the PGM slump is coming to an end.
So you pays your money and you takes your chances!
