Haywood, Hedging cannot be practically achieved in South Africa due to regulations.

Also, when paying a dividend there is a large cost to be paid by the company (probably at least $2m this year) but I think that is partly to do with how the company is structured. Perhaps there is now reason to restructure the company to overcome this burden. See Annual Report

Metis how is selling a couple of million shares holding the price back? The share price has risen from 79p on Christmas Eve to 98p today a 24% increase. This week approx 11m shares traded of which 65% are buys. Tomorrow I hope the bid price will break the £1. I think Anglo selling gave some element of liquidity and may actually have helped the price but I am interested in your view in how selling just over 2.7m shares depressed the price

It might be sensible for SLP to start looking at and thinking of putting some hedges into play now with the prices rising considerably. Perhaps on a sliding scale basis as prices continue upwards. I am sure hedging options would be available to take away downside risk, but allow upside benefit for an option premium (cost).

No sign of hedging PGMs in

OVERVIEW OF THE YEAR
The first half of the 2020 financial year started well and performance
continued much as was planned a year ago, with stable operations in
line with forecasts, some production achievements, and a favourable
and gently rising basket price for our metals in both US Dollars and
SA Rand. The year opened with a basket price of ~ZAR18,700 per 4E
ounce and by the end of HY1, the basket price had hit an all-time high
of ~ZAR25,900 per 4E ounce,

Wouldn’t they be hedging the basket price so big increases in its constituents not yet fed in to extra profit(yet)?

Based on several previous comments, SLP's present share value seems to be based on a considerably lower PGM basket valuation, assuming the present mix. so I wouldn't expect any significant decline in the event this happens. Subject of course, to a world wide economic shock, which unfortunately isn't a totally remote possibility.

Today's Rh price rise has moved the SLP 4E basket up from US$ 3,135 to US$ 3,334 per oz! (Approx of course and using Baird & Co bid prices)

$20400?

$24000 is perfectly fine by me though.

Why not $50,000.

I haven't run the numbers but at $50,000 per Oz it could add $200 dollars to a cars final price.
So even at $50,000 it isn't going to be too onerous on the car makers.

Just suggested, guessed at numbers.
Anyone done the calcs per car price increases??

I don't have level 2 but the 20,000 share seller is still very much in town! You'd guess it is Africa Asia Captial.Apologies if this has already been discussed, but is there much to read into AAC selling down, seeing as they are (from what I understand) Samancor?

Further price support likely for platinum; bodes well for holders here...

wouldnt read too much into the buys / sells mr stephens, we all know for any share these are mostly inaccurate

especially as it seems delayed trades get the current bid ask at time of printing and trade price at time of execution, so that is a bit bizarre, but could be wrong

We’ve been in this a while Nick and as Martin knows I love the numbers but never understand SLP market behaviour. Take today 1.4m shares traded and they are 100% buys and the price hasn’t moved
4 months ago 1.4m was an average trading day. We’ve been constantly over 2.5m for the last few weeks and that’s great as more people getting to know the share. Friday will be interesting. Digital
IC reaches 5,000 subscribers. Hard copy lands on 25,000 doorsteps with a strong buy recommendation and target price of £1.45. I forecast Liberium will up their target price to £1.65. Love this share

always occurs on slp nick, looks like bots, and they always hit on the full bid and full ask

its either someone reminding us what the range is or its trying to push in a certain direction

shouldnt be allowed as the hits are not that close to true price

What is the reason for the large number of tiny trades? Many single figures.

It’s not concentrate that’s why it’s measured in ounces Troy ounces
Regarding share liquidity not sure why there is an issue
Already 300,000 shares traded this morning. I did some dummy runs and 3,000 was accepted. Maybe use a different broker

Although Hargreaves Lansdown states that the EMS for Sylvania Platinum is 20,000 shares , I had difficulty this morning in topping up by buying a mere 3000 shares . My attempt at purchasing was rejected twice before I finally succeeded . That strongly suggests that the market makers don't have many shares on their books , or that they are holding on to them . Good luck all .
